Let’s Go Lego is coming to Khandallah!

More exciting news in the world of Let’s Go Lego — the programme is finally coming back to Khandallah Library! The first session will be on Friday the 4th of May at 3:30pm, and sessions will continue on the first Friday of every month thereafter. No need to book, and it’s totally free — just turn up on the day and have fun!

Since our last official update, the programme has also expanded to include Johnsonville Library. The full Let’s Go Lego timetable (for the moment!) is laid out below:

Cummings Park (Ngaio) Library — first Thursday of the month, 3:30-4:30pm
Khandallah Library — first Friday of the month, 3:30-4:30pm
Karori Library — first Saturday of the month, 2:30-3:30pm
Mervyn Kemp (Tawa) Library — second Thursday of the month, 3:30-4:30pm

LEGO fun at Tawa and Cummings Park!

Let’s Go LEGO is coming to Tawa! Come along to our first session for the year at 3:30pm on Thursday the 8th of February at Mervyn Kemp (Tawa) Library for a whole bunch of exciting LEGO challenges that will test your creativity and problem-solving skills! Sessions will continue on the second Thursday of each month — each session will encourage you to hone your LEGO design skills and build a masterpiece to be proud of. Suitable for ages 5+.

And don’t forget it’s nearly time for Let’s Go LEGO to start up again at Cummings Park (Ngaio) Library, with a shiny new regular time slot at 3:30pm on the first Thursday of each month! So come along to our first session next Thursday the 1st of February, and make sure you bring your thinking caps. Your first challenge is going to be to create a giant collaborative model — but I won’t tell you any more about it until you get here on the day! We’re looking forward to seeing you there!

Let’s Go LEGO Update

Hi everyone! After a very successful return at Karori Library on Saturday the 6th of January, we’re pleased to announce that Let’s Go LEGO will be continuing at Wellington City Libraries in 2018! Please note that due to a change of day, there will be no Let’s Go LEGO session at Cummings Park Library in January. We look forward to seeing you there on Thursday the 1st of February! Keep these days and times in your diary:

Karori Library: First Saturday of the month at 2:30pm, beginning on January the 6th

Cummings Park Library: First Thursday of the month at 3:30pm, beginning on February the 1st

Mandarin Storytimes for Chinese Language Week

Ni Hao! Celebrate Chinese Language week and learn a new word or two (or three!)

Free School Holiday Activities at Karori Library

Can you make the tallest tower in the world?  Get creative these school holidays at Karori Library.

We’re having a fun make-a-thon on Tuesday 6th October, 10-11am using lots of different materials from Lego, playing cards to paper.  You’ll get a chance to design and create a tower using unique materials and a whole lot of imagination!  This holiday activity is ideal for 6-12 year olds.  We can’t wait to see you there.

In the meantime, here’s a selection of activity and architecture books for kids that you might like to take a look at to get your creativity flowing!

Click, Make, Build and Create during the School Holidays

Attention aspiring dancers!

The Royal New Zealand Ballet is coming back in August for more Ballet Storytimes in the library. They were so popular during the school holidays, you won’t want to miss them this time!

titania-on-stars-ImageLegendary dancer and performer Sir Jon Trimmer introduces A Midsummer Night’s Dream – one of Shakespeare’s best-loved stories that has inspired generations of choreographers and dancers around the world – ahead of the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s brand new production, opening in Wellington on 20 August.

 

Perfect for primary school aged children, this is a chance to learn about ballet steps and positions – and to try them out– explore the art of mime and gesture, and hear one of the wonderful stories of the world’s greatest ballets, from an icon of New Zealand dance who has performed them all.
