Spotlight on a library book club: BookSeekers

If you’re aged between 9 and 12 and you like talking about books with other people and having a bit of fun then BookSeekers is the thing for you.

BookSeekers clubs meet every month, talk about books, get the first word on hot new stuff to read, do activities and other book-related things.

It’s fun, it’s free, and it’s all about books. You can find out more about BookSeekers (when the meetings are, how to join) by checking out this information page, or you can ask about it the next time you go to the library.

See you soon!

BookSeekers! New Clubs!

Have you guy’s heard about the “choose your own adventure” books? They’re cool. You know all the times you read a book and think “if I was that character I wouldn’t be so dumb as to do that!” Well in the choose your own adventure books you decide what happens. You are the hero of the mission and as you make choices throughout the story , those decisions make the difference to whether you complete the mission or die!
My favourites are the I Hero series by Steve Barlow and Steve Skidmore. Check it out.

Come see other cool books that we discuss at our BookSeekers club. BookSeekers is this week. Here are the new sites starting this week and the dates and times:

  • Brooklyn Library (Tuesdays)
  • Central Library (Tuesdays – NEW CLUB starting August 2009!)
  • Karori Library (Tuesdays)
  • Tawa Library (Wednesdays)
  • Ruth Gotlieb Library, Kilbirnie (Thursdays)
  • Johnsonville Library (Thursdays – NEW CLUB starting August 2009!)

BookSeekers

Bookseekers is great book club for all of us who love to read (and who are aged 9 to 12). At the meetings we swap heaps of info about books, authors, films of books etc. And when we review books I always write down the title of any book that gets 5 out of 5 stars. Man do I have a large list of cool books I want to read! It’s also fun to play the games relating to the genre of the month and we all have name tags each time which makes it heaps easier to make new friends!

Check out the BookSeekers page on the website. If you’ve got a cool book to review you can do that here too!

BookSeekers!

BookSeekers

It’s not all that often you come to the library and have to put your hand in cold spagetti! (it represented the worms in a dead body!!!!!) But that’s what happened at the Bookseekers meeting when we had been reading Mysteries. It was during a gross game picking what (fake) body parts we were feeling while blindfolded! YUK!
That’s the fun of the BookSeekers club- not only are we being challenged to read different types of books, we are doing it together so can talk about whats good, what’s lame and what’s just plain stupid.

Plus we get to have some fun relating to the topic of the books like we did a “comic jam” when we read graphic novels! I look forward to the meeting each month to see who recommends a book or author I haven’t read before. I now have some new favourites. Great club!

BookSeekers rule!

Check out the club nearest you! BookSeekers is on the second Wednesdays and Thursdays of every month.
