April Tawa BookBusters

Web2It was all about the New Zealand Post Book awards this month at Tawa BookBusters. We had a look at some of the great books up for awards and voted for our favourite one.

This month we also shared the book we had been reading to another BookBuster who recorded our review and shared it with the rest of the group. We have read some awesome books in the last month guys so keep it up.

To finish up we had a game of O & X ‘s. We split into two teams and had to answer some question to get the chance to place our O or X up on the game board.  It was great fun and we had some very competitive BookBusters but in the end we had to call a draw. We will have to try that game again!

Fun at Tawa BookBusters

We had 16 BookBusters at our March meeting. 2 for the first time and 8 new members got their new kits.

We started off with a lovely story and learned how to do our own on-line book reviews. Beacuse we had so many new members we then spent time with a getting to know each other and what we like to do and read activity.

There was also many new books to look at and a new booklist to take home.

Next month’s meeting is on April 4th at 4pm. Come along!

At our November meeting we welcomed our new Bookbuster Ashleigh and congratulated Caroline for receiving her 6th month certificate.

We looked into natural disasters. To check the BookBusters preparedness for a disaster we played a game of fill your emergency kit bag.. There were both silly and correct items that they had to choose from to put in their kit. There were also emergency checklists handed out for them to fill in with their parents when they get home.

Then we had the usual book reviews and new books to choose from and a funny story at the end. Look at how much fun we had.

Hannah reviewed The Crown Queen. She said this was a great book for girls. It was about someone who steals the crown because they wanted to crown someone else.

Kilbirnie BookBusters November Meeting

Hi All!

We had an action-packed session this month. To begin, Rowan read Ben’s Dream by Chris Van Allsburg. This book tested the geographic knowledge of our BookBusters, and they passed with flying colours! Then we had an assortment of great book reviews. Sofia had read the classic Black Beauty and gave it 10/10. Tess really enjoyed Destiny the Pop Star Fairy by Daisy Meadows. Ben and Lucas had both been reading Geronimo Stilton (as had lots of our other BookBusters!)

Our activity this month was a library scavenger hunt. We got into teams of 2 & 3 and had to find the answers to 10 questions about the library. Some of the questions were really hard! Rowan & Anna were impressed that our BookBusters did so well. We went through the answers together and everyone got to choose a special reward sticker.

See you in December everyone!

Johnsonville BookBusters

The Commonwealth games with a difference came to our BookBuster session  this month.

BookBusters had to find a book on a country, a sport, and a means of transport to the games. Along with some questions about the games, and designing their own flag, each team competed for the gold, silver, or bronze medal.

More medals were given out for reviews and spot questions, so we had some multiple medal winners. Well done everyone.

Karori BookBusters October Reviews

Shivani reviewed The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl.  It is about a girl who has a magic finger and she uses it on a lot of people – like her teacher who was turned into a cat and Mr and Mrs Gregg get wings!  While they are flying, some ducks get into their houses but then the couples’ wings vanish and it all goes back to normal.  9.5/10

Olivia reviewed The Queen Elizabeth Family from The Family Collection by Enid Blyton.  Mike, Belinda and Ann come home from school one weekend to find their father home early.  He asks them if they would like to have dinner on the Queen Elizabeth ship.  They all really enjoy dinner there.  Soon the children are allowed to sail to America on the ship.  I like how Enid Blyton describes what it is like to be on a big ship.  10/10

Sarah reviewed EJ12 Girl Hero series by Susannah McFarlane.  It’s about a girl called Emma who is a spy.  Sarah loves this book because it has lots of action in it and she recommends it for girls aged 7 and up.  5/5

Elena reviewed Little House on the Prairie.  She says it’s a really good book because about a little girl who lives in the big woods.

Zita reviewed How To Train Your Dragon, a story about a boy called Hiccup who is a bit of a nerd.  This book is set in Viking times and has heaps of dragons and heroes.

Lauren reviewed The Magic Tree House series because the characters go on lots of fun adventures.

Madeline reviewed Silver Dolphin, a story about a girl who lives in the attic at her grandma’s house.  She befriends dolphins and they go on many adventures together.
