Book Reviews

Here are some more reviews, this time from Kilbirnie BookBusters...

Amazon.com book coverCabin Creek Mysteries No. 1 - The Secret of Robber's Cave by Kristiana Gregory.
Review by Imogen.
About the book: The lost island was off limits until now. Jeff and David's dad told them he would take them to the lost island when David turned ten. But the problem is their father died on the Black Mountains a year ago. So they go to find the robber's cave on the lost island with help from their cousin Claire. What I liked about the book: it was fantastic to read. I also like horror books and Cabin Creek Mysteries was very scary. I give this book 10 stars out of 10.

Amazon.com book coverThe Magic Finger by Roald Dahl.
Review by Anjali.
This is about a girl who has a magic finger. The girl's next door neighbours are called the Gregg family. Mr Gregg and the two children, William and Phillip always like to hunt for animals. Then oe morning Mr Gregg and the two children were carrying a young deer. That made her so angry that she put the magic finger on all of the Gregg family. On Saturday morning they woke as small as ducks. The ducks were as big as people. Then the ducks were taking over the house. The family had to stay in a nest. Next morning the girl turned them back to normal people. They were then happy. I give this book 9 stars out of 10.

Amazon.com book coverNice One, Sniff by Ian Whybrow.
Review by Rory.
Sniff is a dog who is owned by Ben Moore. Ben has a little sister called Sal who is very annoying. They get into a lot of adventures.

Henrietta gets a letter by Martine Murray.
Review by Imogen.
This book is about a girl called Henrietta and her favourtie food is chocolate ripple cake and her brother has that type of cake for his birthday and Henrietta gets really cross and goes to her room because he gets the biggest piece. She finds out that there is a little fairy sleeping in her sock under her bed, her name is Mabel. Mabel is really kind and lets Henrietta go to the fairy dance in a magical place. Henrietta danced and danced but at first she was a little shy, when it got dark she went home and went to sleep. I give this book 8 stars out of 10.

Dear Whiskers by Ann Whitehead Nagda.
Review by Jette.
It's about a class who are pretending to be mice and write letters to 5 year olds. I give this book 9 stars out of 10.

book coverA Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket.
Review by Saffron.
This story is about three very unlucky children called Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire. Their sad tale starts with them at Briny beach when they see a figure emerging from the mist. It is Mr. Poe, a Bank Manager. Mr Poe tells them that their parents have perished in an awful fire which has destroyed their entire house. The Baudelaire children then get adopted by a scary, evil, money-grabbing villan called Count Olaf who tries to get his hands on the Baudelaire children's enormous fortune. But the three children use their very different talents to get out of their misfortunes. Voilet uses her talent for inventing, Klaus uses his talent for reading and Sunny uses her talent for biting. I really enjoyed this book because unlike most books, this one doesn't have a happy ending. I like how the story is told by Lemony Snicket and how he tells us what the complicated words mean. I have now read 3 Lemony Snicket books, 10 more to go. If you would like to know more about this miserable story, then you should read this book. I give this book 9 stars out of 10.

Molly Moon's Incredible Book of Hypnotism by Georgia Byng.
Review by Ruby.
Molly Moon is about an orphanage girl aged 10. At the beginning she does not know that she is a master hypnotist. She finds out that she is a master hypnotist with a book. She hypnotises Petula (the evil mistress's dog) into being a nice friendly pal to Molly. I give this book 10 stars out of 10.

Tales of Deltora by Emily Rodda.
Review by James.
This is one of the many books of Deltora Quest but this one I like especially because it has the history of the land Deltora. I extremely like the pictures in the book 'cos they are very detailed and realistic. I very much like the map on the back and front so you can track where the place is and stuff. I rate this book 100 out of 100 because of everything I have said above.

Here are some reviews from Karori BookBusters - let us know what you think too!

Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz.
Review by Manraj.
Ian Rider is driving back from his latest mission in his BMW, a helicopter flies over the BMW -Yansen Gorvich drops down. Ian Rider is dead! Alex Rider gets pulled into the world of MIG! His first mission is awaiting him. My favourite character is Alex Rider because he is smart brave and he is a spy. Recommendation: I recommend this book to anyone who wants to be a spy. My favourite part is when Alex Rider rides a horse through London, jumping over cars and being chased by the Cavalry. Also when he is hanging off the roof of Herod Salyes HQ and swings Sabina Pleasure onto the balcony. 10/10

The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Review by Jean.
Laura is my favourite character because she goes on lots of adventures. Laura keeps on moving because Pa wants to find a perfect place. At the moment they are having a bad winter. At the moment it is Christmas. 5 stars.

Sophie Makes a Splash (Mermaid SOS) by Gillian.
Review by Yawynne Chhun.
My favourite character in the book is Holly. I like her because she is smart and nice. My favourite part is when Sophie races down with Scarlett. The worst part was when a dolphin (Silver) got trapped. I think my friend would love this book!

Clubs by Kate de Goldi.
Review by Julia.
It is funny because she (Lolly) tried to join the cat club and she can't because her cat is too old and too fat. She tried to join the Barbie club but her Barbie has no hair. She tried to join the Harry Potter club but it is boys only. She tried to join the Lego club but there is no Lego at her house. She joins the grass growing club. All you do is hang and watch grass grow. 4 stars.

Amazon.com book coverSausage in Trouble by Michaela Morgan.
Review by Luke.
It was funny when the robbers came and Sausage tripped the robbers up. My favourite character was Sausage because he was funny.

Amazon.co.uk book coverThe Secret Seven by Enid Blyton.
Review by Francis.
In this first adventure, the Secret Seven are on the trail of strange clues which lead them in disguise through the snow to the old house and a mystery. 5 stars.

Amazon.com book coverMystic and the Midnight Ride by Stacy Gregg.
Review by Sophie.
Issie loves horses and is a member of the Chevalier Point Pony Club where she looks after her pony Mystic, trains for gymkhanas and hangs out with her best friends. When Issie is asked to train Blaze, an abandoned pony, her riding skills are put to the test. 10/10

Amazon.co.uk book coverChrissie the Wish Fairy by Daisy Meadows.
Review by Hanna.
The title of the book I'm going to review is called Chrissie the Wish Fairy and the author is Daisy Meadows. I think this book is suitable for children aged 6-9 years old. There are 3 main characters in the story, two of them are girls, their names are Rachel and Kirsty and the last one is Chrissie the Wish Fairy. The story is about Rachel and Kirsty who have adventures with the fairies, to help them get their special items back. The book is fiction because it's got fairies in it. The bad guy is Jack Frost and his goblins who live in Goblin Grotto. Yes I would recommend this book and I'd give this book 5 stars.

Amazon.co.uk book coverThe Famous Five: Five Get into a Fix by Enid Blyton.
Review by Georgia.
Five go on a holiday in the snow. I think this book is fantastic. I love the Famous Five and Secret Seven.

Amazon.co.uk book coverMagic Kitten series by Sue Bentley.
Review by Maria.
Magic Kitten is about a kitten called Flame. He has emerald eyes. His uncle wants to kill him so he can be king longer.

Amazon.co.uk book coverNudie Dudie by Michael Lawrence.
Review by Jack.
This book rates 10/10. It's the funniest book I've ever read. It's about when Jiggy McCue's clothes disappear in public! I won't tell you what happens though.

Amazon.co.uk book coverPony Pals series by Jean Betancourt.
Review by Katie.
I have been reading Pony Pals. I want a pony and my favourite character was Lulu. My favourite part of the book was at the end. I don't have a worst part. I thought the book was cool and great.

Amazon.co.uk book coverRapunzel.
Review by Bashayer.
My favourite characters in the book Rapunzel are Rapunzel and the prince because the prince saves her. The worst part is when the witch takes baby Rapunzel away from her parents. The witch takes baby Rapunzel and locks her up in a very high tower so no one can see her. I think the witch is really mean to have done that to Rapunzel. I think that anyone between 8 and 10 can read this book because it is a great book.
