The Witches by Roald Dahl

It’s about an orphan boy and he goes on holiday with his grandma but he gets turned into a mouse by a witch!  But he gets them before they turn all the children into mice as well.  It’s characters were the witches, a boy (or mouse) and grandma.  The best part of the story was when the witches got turned into mice and the worst part was when the grand high witch took off her mask.  I think this was written for boys and girls.

New Book Review

Anything but typical

By Nora Raleigh Baskin

“It’s easy to listen with the wild drone of the airplane. It is like a giant vacuum that sucks up all the other noise. Nobody even hears when you pass gas out loud on a plane”. Jason Blake does a lot of listening and figuring out of things inside his head. He doesn’t speak much and sometimes he does weird things, like shaking his hands in the air or making silly faces. Jason Blake is autistic and this is his story about how he can be himself.

This is a really good story showing us how people who are different to the normal people in this world, can find ways to cope on their own.

What’s the difference?

Alligators and crocodiles – they are the world’s largest reptiles and the closest living relatives of the dinosaurs but if you would like to learn what the difference is between them then this book is for you.

I discovered that the word “crocodile” comes from the word krokodeilos (kro-KO-day-los), which means “lizard” in Greek and the word “alligator” comes from the word el lagarto (L la-GAR-toe), which means lizard in Spanish.

I also learnt something new. I discovered that there are two different kinds of alligators and fourteen different kinds of crocodile and the only place in the world were you will find them both together is the southern tip of Florida and the Florida Keys. They can swim up to 6 miles an hour and can stay underwater for as long as two hours.

So if you want to learn more take a look at Alligators and Crocodiles. They are amazing creatures but don’t get too close!

Move over ancient Greek gods

Rick Riordan author of the amazing Percy Jackson series is now writing about Ancient Egyptian mythology.

The first of The Kane Chronicles is The Red Pyramid. In which Carter and Sadie Kane discover who their parents really were,  get slightly possessed by Isis and Horus (two Egyptian Gods) and have to save the world from being turned into burning chaos. Along the way they get to travel to London, Paris and New York, perform magic, indulge in some kick butt fight scenes, and hang out with a groovy knife wielding cat goddess. What is there not to love about a book like that?
