April Karori BookBusters

Karori BookBusters celebrated Easter at our April meeting with lots of fun crafts and holiday reads.  We looked at a selection of cool craft books and had a go at making some cute Easter chick cards and cut-out bunnies.  Check out our photos below!

We hope you all had a lovely Easter with your friends and family and are looking forward to seeing you at the next meeting.  Remember you’re welcome to bring along a friend (7-8years) – the more the merrier! Next meeting May 1st at 4pm.

Johnsonville April BookBusters

Johnsonville Bookbusters had a hopping time last April. We started off with an Easter crossword activity then we welcomed our two new Bookbusters, Gavin and Seyara. We then had a funny story about a very big headed king entitled King Hugo’s Ego  by Chris Van Dusen. 6 Bookbusters shared what they had read and lots of fun was had putting together a bunny puzzle because they were divided into girls versus boys! Damon receieved his 6th month certificate and then we were off to choose from the new books. All in all it was truly a fun session!

April Tawa BookBusters

Web2It was all about the New Zealand Post Book awards this month at Tawa BookBusters. We had a look at some of the great books up for awards and voted for our favourite one.

This month we also shared the book we had been reading to another BookBuster who recorded our review and shared it with the rest of the group. We have read some awesome books in the last month guys so keep it up.

To finish up we had a game of O & X ‘s. We split into two teams and had to answer some question to get the chance to place our O or X up on the game board.  It was great fun and we had some very competitive BookBusters but in the end we had to call a draw. We will have to try that game again!

Kid’s Review by Abishkar

Tuesdays at the Castle by Jessica Day George

Meet the castle that can build itself… and the children who will do anything to defend it!!

The Glower children are in turmoil – their parents (the king and the queen) and brother have been attacked by bandits and no one knows their whereabouts, of if indeed they’re alive. Now the castle is under seige from the inside by the Vervish Prince Khelsh.

Who can they trust…?

Princess Celie is a kind 11 year old. She is the Royal Princess of Sleyne and tries to do one of the hardest things in that mythical land: map Castle Glower. She is resourceful, brave and agile.

Castle Glower is extraordinary. It can do anything, like put walls in front of stairways, make slides down to the courtyard, put rooms in a row and much more. But can the castle survive the vicious onslaught of Khelsh who wants to take over?

Prince Khelsh is a mean, calculating, nasty, bullying, muderous person. His aim is take over the castle. Khelsh is hated by everyone, even his own dad!

It’s a really good book. Great for BookBusters. Great for anyone.

Review written by Abishkar from Island Bay Library BookBusters Abishkar rated Tuesdays at the Castle 9.5 out of 10!

Fun at Tawa BookBusters

We had 16 BookBusters at our March meeting. 2 for the first time and 8 new members got their new kits.

We started off with a lovely story and learned how to do our own on-line book reviews. Beacuse we had so many new members we then spent time with a getting to know each other and what we like to do and read activity.

There was also many new books to look at and a new booklist to take home.

Next month’s meeting is on April 4th at 4pm. Come along!

Karori BookBusters February Meeting

Karori BookBusters had a lot of fun at our first session for 2012.  We made some cool corner-page monster bookmarks and shared some fantastic reviews.  Check out our photos and recommended reads below.  See you all in March – and we welcome you to bring along a friend with you (who is 7 to 8).

PS. If you’re feeling crafty and would like to make your own monster bookmark, here is the link to the instructions and template.  Give it a go!

Johnsonville BookBusters had a great session to start off the New Year

First off we welcomed our new BookBusters Holly and Dylan and then we created a getting to know you picture. We all had an outline of a person and inside we had to write information that was unique about us. What colour are our eyes what is our favourite book, food or sport. Anything that was special about us. So make sure you check them out. They are up on our BookBuster board in the library.

We also heard some great reviews. You have all been doing some great reading over the holiday and we all enjoyed hearing what have been your favourites.

Check out our photos.
