Karori BookSeekers

We had a great time with a visit from our friend Monty who showed us a selection of graphic novels and junior comics. We are getting a lot more of these in the collection and it was fun to see so many different styles. Black and white, no words, full page illustrations, panel illustrations, true stories and super heroes, were just some to flick through.

We also played charades, reviewed the historical books that we had read over the last month and had a little party for our mid year – the chippies went pretty quickly!

Here’s a selection of some of the comics we recommend:

Karori BookSeekers March Meeting

Karori BookSeekers

We had a good group of 17 last week and some fun was had with our ‘Good thing / Bad thing’ game. It seems that money is on most everyone’s mind! With biscuits and chocolate, we farewelled two of our original members, Rhys and Tim. Rhys went through BookBusters group first and then joined BookSeekers when we started here at Karori, at the same time as Tim. We will miss their reviews on the different material they have read over the years.

Some of the books reviewed this time were:

Olivia – The Dawn shops and other stories / Joyce Brisley

Katherine – She’s so dead to us / Kieran Scott

Rhys – The Fifth elephant / Terry Pratchett

Rebekah – Trash / Andy Mulligan

Lina – The Bellmaker / Brian Jacques

Stacey – My name is Mina / David Almond

Adele – A Song for Summer / Eva Ibbotson

Lucas – Diary of a wimpy kid : the ugly truth / Jeff Kinney

Rachel – High-tech legs on Everest / Mark Inglis

Karori BookSeekers

We had a great first session for 2011.  It was lovely to see everyone after the holidays and I loved hearing about all the cool books you have been reading.

The theme for this meeting was fantasy and as a group we created a huge brainstorm of ideas about what makes an awesome fantasy novel.  We also had a look at lots of the libraries shiny new fantasy books.

Here’s a selection of the books our BookSeekers have been reading lately:
