Skinks, lizards, and geckos……come see them!

Learn about lizards
Lizard Day at Karori Sanctuary, 11am-2pm, Saturday 31 Jan.
Can you tell a skink apart from a gecko? Local lizard expert Dennis Keall and Sanctuary conservation staff will be giving visitors a chance to see a range of New Zealand’s native geckos and skinks. As well as some of the more common local lizards you might find in your backyard, you will also get the chance to see some far rarer species, such as the Otago and scree skinks and our largest living gecko – Duvaucel’s gecko. They will also be giving practical advice on what you can do to encourage geckos and skinks into your backyard and what organisations like Karori Sanctuary and DoC are doing to halt the decline of our native reptiles. There will be a BBQ, activities, and fun for all the family! No need to book. Admission charges apply.
