Egyptians: Who were the Ancient Egyptians?

Egypt is a hot, dry country. The Nile River runs through the centre and provides water, fertile soil, food, transport and materials for building. The Egyptians believed the Nile River was a gift from the gods. Every year the river would flood the nearby land, and when the water went back down, it left behind fertile black silt which gave ancient

Egypt its name: Kemet, the “Black” Land. Either side of the Nile was vast desert where hardly anything would grow, so few people lived there. The ancient Egyptian civilisation began in about 5500 B. C. Groups of farmers lived around the Nile. Two separate kingdoms came from these groups: Lower Egypt in the north, and Upper Egypt in the South. In about 3100 B. C. Pharaoh Narmer joined the two kingdoms to create one

Egypt, and it became the richest and most powerful country in the world.

After Pharaoh Narmer, pharaohs ruled Egypt for 3000 years, until in 30 B.C. Egypt became part of the Roman Empire.
