Fun with Origami

I am sure most of you have enjoyed doing origami at some stage.

You may know that ori means “folding” and gami means “paper” but have you ever wondered who invented it and where it came from.  A lot of you may say Japan but in fact the exact origin of origami is unknown.

Paper was invented in China in the first century A.D. and brought to Japan by Buddhist monks in the sixth century A.D, but because written records are very limited for that time period we don’t know whether origami first started in China or Japan.

However, no one will dispute the fact that Japan has developed origami to a very high art form making wonderfully creations just from paper.

The library has lots of great books on origami if you are a first timer at paper folding or maybe you have a bit more skill and you are looking for new ideas.

Origami and Other Paper Projects is one book with great ideas and clear instruction on something as simple as a glider to something more difficult like origami beads.

So have a go – its lots of fun.
