Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2023

For Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, Wellington City Libraries are hosting a week of fun events for the whole whānau! Here is our schedule below; events are repeated throughout the week at different library branches so make sure to scroll through the whole list to see what’s happening at your favourite branches. Nohinohi Reorua Special11 September, 10:30-11am (Tawa Library)

An extra special session of Nohinohi Reorua is happening this month. Come down to Tawa Library as we kickstart Te Wiki o te Reo Māori with another session of our bilingual storytime in te reo Māori and English. Recommended for children aged 2 – 4 years with their caregivers.

Stories of Te Reo – Record Yours! – 12 September, 3-5pm (Te Awe Library)

As part of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori we are inviting you to record your journey, memories and actions to ensure the survival of te reo Māori as a unique part of our national identity. Find out more about the national Stories of Te Reo project.

Come to the library on Tuesday 12 September from 3-5pm to record your stories. Allow approx. 25 minutes for your recording session.

CRAFTerschool Te Ao Māori Special – 12 September, 3:30-4:30pm (Johnsonville Library)

Enjoy a te Ao Māori focus on today’s craft activities for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori!  All tamariki are welcome with their mātua (parents) or kaitiaki (caregiver).

CRAFTerschool is a free art and craft session aimed at school aged children. Join us for a different project every week during term time! Crafting starts at 3.30pm, please arrive by 4pm so you have time to complete the craft.

  • Suitable for children age 5+
  • Caregivers must remain onsite during sessions

Te Reo Baby Rock and Rhyme – 13 September, 10:30-11am (Johnsonville)

Nau mai hoki mai. Join us in Waitohi Library for a special morning celebrating te reo Māori for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. A fun and free programme for parents and caregivers to interact with their pēpē through waiata, huariti, and pukapuka.

Recommended for children aged 0 – 2 years and their caregivers.

Stories of Te Reo -Record Yours! – 13 September 1-3pm, (Johnsonville Library)

Come down to Waitohi Library and share your te reo Māori journey with us as part of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.  This little action plays a big part in ensuring the revitalisation of te reo Māori, our taonga.

  • We have the equipment to capture your story.
  • Allow approx. 25 minutes for your recording session.

Taniwha Tinker Time (STEAM-based play) – 14 September 10:30-11:30am, (Johnsonville Library)

A special Tinker Time this week for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori Week Celebration

Today’s Tinker Time is at the ARTS stage of our STEAM journey, and we’ll be exploring collage… with a te reo twist! We will kōrero and learn more about the taniwha in this week’s special session of Tinker Time. This is an event for older preschoolers.

Recommended for children aged 2 – 5 years with their caregivers.

As part of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori we are inviting you to record your journey, memories and actions to ensure the survival of te reo Māori as a unique part of our national identity. Find out more about the national Stories of Te Reo project.

Come to the library on Thursday 14 September between 1 – 3pm to record your stories. Allow approx. 25 minutes for your recording session.

Taniwha Tinker Time – 15 September, 10:30-11:30am (Tawa Library)

A fun and interactive programme for preschoolers to explore the principles of STEAM with a combination of stories and hands-on activities.

Join us for an hour of fun and sharing as part of Celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori . Let’s learn and build our te reo Māori skills together. Wherever you are in your te reo journey, come to this event for a friendly kōrero and kai!
