Who are you? Tell us a bit about your music:
I am Sunshine Bay, an ambient lofi artist from New Zealand. My music is a fusion of atmospheric textures, soothing melodies, and intricate beats, creating a serene and introspective sonic experience.

What have you been working on lately? Any new tracks or albums on the way?
Lately, I have been immersed in creating new tracks that beautifully blend Indonesian influences with modern lofi aesthetics. Drawing inspiration from the enchanting musical traditions of Indonesia, and the awe-inspiring landscapes I’ve encountered during my recording expeditions, my music resonates with the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of this remarkable country.

The best place to follow me and discover my music is on my official website and social media channels. You can find my music on major streaming platforms like Spotify, YouTube, and Bandcamp.

What were the 3 most influential albums to you growing up?
Three influential albums that shaped my musical journey are Nujabes’ ‘Modal Soul’, Laffey’s ‘Forever Changing’, and Jay Dee’s ‘Jay Deelicious: The Delicious Vinyl Years’. These albums opened my mind to the possibilities of blending organic and electronic elements in music.

Which other Wellington musician (s) would you most like to work with?
In Wellington, there are many talented musicians I would love to collaborate with. Some notable names include Wallace, Zoe Moon, and Dallas Tamaira. Collaborating with these artists would be a dream come true.

What’s your favourite Wellington venue to play in?
My favourite Wellington venue to play in is Meow. It has a cozy and intimate atmosphere that perfectly complements the ambient and chill vibes of my music.

In your songwriting or composing (or the band’s songwriting) how do the compositions and songs take shape?
In my song-writing and composing process, I often start with creating atmospheric textures and melodic fragments. From there, I build upon these elements, layering intricate beats and harmonies to shape the compositions. It’s a gradual and intuitive process that allows the music to take its own unique form.
