Who are you? Tell us a bit about your music:
We are Floor Five – a band full of young kiwi’s, making music for young kiwis. The creation of Floor Five started from two random humans (Jackson & Drew) living on their fifth floor in their hall of residence where they somehow met and jammed to music they loved. Not long after our first two singles were released, we expanded in to a four-piece band with Tom & Will on board adding their special touch to complete Floor Five. We take inspiration from all types of music as we believe there’s so much amazing music out there, that why not take inspiration from all? We try use elements from multiple genres within our original tunes to create the Floor Five sound you hear today.

What have you been working on lately? Any new tracks or albums on the way?
We spent majority of last year crafting a four-song EP The Garden that we released in January. This is our debut EP and we are very excited to share it with you – it’s also one of many projects we have lined up for the year 2022…

Where is the best place people can follow you & find your music?
We’re very active on all our social medias (Instagram & Facebook) and Spotify.

What were the 3 most influential albums to you growing up?
As a band we’ve all grown up with different music tastes and backgrounds so some of our individual influences range from:
Wish You Were Here, Pink Floyd
Herbie Hancock
Parachutes, Coldplay
Hatful of Hollow – The Smiths

Which other Wellington musician (s) would you most like to work with?
TOI
Corduroy.
HUMMUCIDE
Dr. Reknaw
Heavy Chest

What is your favourite Wellington venue to play in?
San Fran & Meow.

In your songwriting or composing (or the bands songwriting) how do the compositions and songs take shape?
So far, its consisted of firstly finding the base chords and lyrics which will then be shown to the band. From here we add ideas, layers, and all the sticky bits in-between to make it sound like Floor Five. Fun fact – we also write the lyrics after or alongside the creation of the tune, as we believe the music writes the lyrics.

Where/when is your next gig?
March 16th at Meow. Our EP release gig alongside Wellington bands Sure Boy & Haven. Make sure you follow our socials to stay in touch!
