The Eighth Note: Fruit Juice Parade

The Eighth Note is 8 quick Questions with Wellington Musicians. A chance for us to catch up with people & see what they’re up to, or introduce you to a new musician/band and their music. Up next is Shannen from Fruit Juice Parade.

Who are you? Tell us a bit about your music:
Hello, we are fruit juice parade! We’re a Wellington band now, although everyone still thinks we live in Palmerston North, where we’re from. We make emo-twee-indie-cool music with a guitar and a drum kit and a melodica.

What have you been working on lately? Any new tracks or albums on the way?
Nothing on the way, but we’ve just released a new EP! By the long and confusing name of the more you question the further you get from the answer.

Where is the best place people can follow you & find your music?
Our Facebook is for business, Instagram is for party, Bandcamp and Spotify for actually listening to us. We’re fruit juice parade on everything!

What were the 3 most influential albums to you growing up?
I have to put a Taylor Swift album in there, probably Fearless or Speak Now. I think she’s great. Also Split Ends by Split Enz, cos its weird and twangy and obnoxious and I thought it was the coolest thing ever when I first heard it. And it would be rude to ignore Born This Way by Lady Gaga.

Which other Wellington musician (s) would you most like to work with?
Wiri Donna!

What’s your favourite Wellington venue to play in?
I really like San Fran, it’s nice to play to a big crowd there.

In your songwriting or composing (or the band’s songwriting) how do the compositions and songs take shape?
We work a bit differently to most bands. Tharushi writes the lyrics and I write the melody for them, I do guitars and Tharushi does drums and melodica. The lyrics thing trips people up sometimes!

Where/when is your next gig?
We have one coming up! Supporting Louisa Nicklin at Moon on July 2nd. We’re really looking forward to it!
