Thursday night films in April – Hitchcock

Syndetics book coverEveryone loves Hitchcock and so do we. One of the greatest filmmakers of all time, Alfred Hitchcock died in April in 1980. He would have been 117 in 2017 and we will celebrate his achievement by showing a selection of his films. The line-up includes one of the most beloved of his works starring Grace Kelly, an early classic spy movie, and a biographical movie about him starring Anthony Hopkins.

Syndetics book coverMarch is Women’s History Month, and International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th of March, so we will be featuring a ‘Women’s March’ series of films this month, showing movies directed by women filmmakers. The line-up includes an English coming-of-age drama set in 60s London, a fantastic new NZ drama adapted from an Eleanor Catton novel, and an intriguing family documentary directed by a Canadian actress-director.

Syndetics book coverFor December 2016, we will be featuring a series we’re calling ‘Farewell to 2016 and people who are no longer with us’, showing films to pay tribute to the great people who passed away this year. The line-up includes documentaries about a legendary Canadian singer, and one of the most controversial sporting people, and a fantasy comedy drama featuring a versatile English actor. Since Christmas is approaching, we are showing only three films this month and 15th December will be the last film night of the year.

Thursday evening film screenings at Central

Our ‘Taste of the Festival’ line-up includes a documentary about a legendary movie star, a lovely animated feature, and a classic film noir. We have many DVDs showcased from past festivals. Check them out here, grouped by the year they were shown at the festival.
