New Album: Pervertor

‘New Album’ is where a band or artist answers some questions about their latest release. Up next is Ross from Pervertor, whose latest album ‘Perverted Tales Of Depravity’ was released late 2017, and are celebrating the bands 10th anniversary this year.

When/where was the new album recorded?
We started off by tracking drums in April 2014 in our rehearsal space in Paraparaumu. We then used the same space, and one of our homes, to track the guitar, bass and vocals. We slowly pieced together the rest of the recordings over the proceeding months. Finishing with the vocals in Dec 2014. Mixing, mastering and creating the artwork all took up the next couple of years.

Who produced/engineered the album? How did the tracks come together in the studio, or at home?
Inebriator, our guitarist, and his brother Kieran (guitarist with Fallen Order) recorded and mixed the album. Both have recording experience and we trusted them to give us what we wanted for the project.

How did the songwriting happen? Are there any overall themes within the songs/album?
Songwriting was shared between our singer Necroar and guitarist Inebriator for the majority of the material. We then brought the songs into the rehearsal room and fine tuned them until they were complete. There isn’t a specific overall theme but the lyrics are a reflection of the many disturbed individuals who live among us.

Were you going for a different sound/approach on this album?
Not specifically, but there were definitely elements of the recording process we wanted to improve upon from our first album ‘Into The Alcoholic Abyss’. The overall goal was just to improve on all aspects of the previous recording and represent our newest material more accurately.

Was there any specific gear you used to capture that?
We had updated our recording hardware/software to take advantage of the new technology and processes in DIY recording standards.

Is there a particular single/track that you feel captures the essence of the album?
‘Raise The Metal Fist’ I think is the song that most accurately reflects the band at that stage of our development. We’re also currently starting our live sets with this song, so we feel it is a great way to introduce the band both on the recording and live.

Is there a physical copy available? If not which digital platforms is it available on?
Yes, CD copies are available at Bandcamp and you can also buy digital copies through that site also.

Are you working on a video/videos for any of the songs?
No videos are planned at this stage for the material off the new album. It’s not a particular priority for the band at the moment. But certainly something we will look at for new material if and when the right concept and/or director manifests itself.
