New Single: Will McClean

‘New Single’ is where a band or artist answers a couple of quick questions about their latest Single release. Up next is Will McClean, who has just released a new song Man On A Mission featuring Casual Healing.

What the song is about lyrically?
This song is a reflection on my realisation of the fragility of life at a young age. After a beautiful conversation about vulnerability, I began to write some words as the instrumental was getting created. This song is the first time I mention the passing of my father when I was younger, and the questions this posed to me. So lyrically, this song has a very strong family theme throughout.

Who produced/recorded it? Did the track come together in the studio, or at home?
The track was produced by Casual Healing (Nikau Te Huki), who also features in it, in the chorus and some backing vocals. ‘MAN ON A MISSION’ was recording in the Nikau’s Caravan labelled the “C*H*u*R Studio”. The full track demo was created in a full day, with Nikau continuing production and mixing the months after.

Were there any gear or effects that you used in the mix to get the sound you were after?
All the gear in Nikaus studio ultimately shaped the sound of this track. I believe Nikau has a very distinct sound when producing, a continuum of deep moody grooves set against live drum and instrument sounds.

Is this a stand-alone track or part of an upcoming album or EP?
This track is the first single from a six track EP I am currently producing and writing, set for release this coming summer.
