New Single: The Black Seeds

‘New Single’ is where a band or artist answers a couple of quick questions about their latest Single release. Up next is Barnaby Weir & The Black Seeds, who have just released new track Let The Sunshine Through.

What the song is about lyrically?
‘Let The Sunshine Through’ is a bittersweet love song. The lyrics are about facing the challenges of common domestic life, facing dark times and making the best of the situation. It’s also about the possibilities of making a family and being the best that you can be in supporting and loving your partner through thick and thin.

Who produced/recorded it?
The Black Seeds and Lee Prebble from the Surgery Studios.

Did the track come together in the studio, or at home?
Initially Barnaby wrote and recorded a demo at his house and home studio in from there a lot of magic was added from the band in the various locations around New Zealand.

Were there any gear or effects that you used in the mix to get the sound you were after?
In particular the Roland Juno 60 gave the underlying riff and mellow analogue synth sounds. We went for a more of a programmed beat with added natural percussion and drumrolls from our amazing drummer Jarney Murphy. Lots of analogue gear was used including Roland space echo, a 60’s Japanese bass guitar and live horns through real spring reverb units.

Is this a stand-alone track or part of an upcoming album or EP?
‘Let The Sunshine Through’ is the latest single from an upcoming album!
