While quite a lot of gigs have been cancelled or postponed until a return to Alert Level 1, there are still some going ahead. Auckland’s Baby Zionov & Lance are at tonight’s Eyegum free gig, while eclectic jazz ensemble The Troubles serve up some sonic anarchy at Meow.
Thursday sees Ariana Tikao and Alistair Fraser together at Expressions in Upper Hutt, in association with the stunning Ngā Hau Ngākau exhibition. Friday sees Dimestore Skanks, The Uncools, and Departure Party playing a once in a lifetime experience for 40 lucky fans at Valhalla, limited to 40 guests, plus It’s Uptown with some George Benson Funky Boogaloo at Hashigo Zake.
The weekend sees some roaring Blues, Soul-Jazz and Boogaloo with Steve Moodie, Dayle Jellyman, Nick George at Hashigo Zake. The Newtown Social Club gig on Saturday, featuring new shoegaze band SHE, The Delinquents & Holloway Holiday is a ‘private party’ event in order to fit with the level two restrictions, but if people just click ‘going’ on the event page that is fine with the bands, and The Mulls play a 2nd show at Meow, after Friday’s gig at TheThird Eye sold out.
Sunday sees an Album Release show at Valhalla from Hadees Drudge with support from Curlys Jewels & Voodoo Bloo. First band 4pm sharp. At MOON 1 Scott Pilgrim dusts off a 22 year old reel tape to resurrect an EP from the band Soda, with support from Nicole Andrews. The Third Eye closes out the weekend with Mike Costeloe presenting a very special selection of music, as recorded by the Prince of Cool Jazz, Chet Baker.
