The Eighth Note: Raw Collective

‘The Eighth Note’ is 8 quick Questions with Wellington Musicians.

A chance for us to catch up with people & see what they’re up to, or introduce you to a new musician/band and their music.

Today’s guest is Raw Deezy from Raw Collective.

Who are you? Tell us a bit about your music:
Hey I’m Raw Deezy, producer and rapper from Raw Collective….a collection of 10 musos from different genres and suburbs playing live Hip-Hop. We want to get heads nodding and arms waving to our sound of hip-hop meets funk, jazz and soul.

What have you been working on lately? Any new tracks or albums on the way?
Just about to drop our next single ‘Smash the grips’, as we finally finish our first album. Plan on releasing album this year so plenty of videos and songs to be heard and seen around the corner!

Where is the best place people can follow you & find your music?
Everywhere online really, Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, Bandcamp…..best place is our Website.

What were the 3 most influential albums to you growing up?
Personally mine would be Beastie boys, Dr Dre, J dilla, but this would differ from each band member, ha. Big hip hop fan and collector growing up for sure.

Which other Wellington musician (s) would you most like to work with?
Have enjoyed doing gigs with local rapper Ash Broke, so much talent in Welly it’s hard to choose, some beats from Paddy Fred or K Saba would be nice!

What’s your favourite Wellington venue to play in?
The Rogue and Vagabond thus far, as they are very accommodating with a good sound system…always turns out a great night!

In your songwriting or composing (or the band’s songwriting) how do the compositions and songs take shape?
Always starts with an instrumental produced by myself, and from there the whole band add their instrument and different flavours. As the man behind the desk, it’s amazing watching these song take form, from jazz to rock n roll, I can hear everything in all the layers, but the team always keep it Hip-hop for me 😉 haha

Where/when is your next gig?
Playing at Homegrown this Saturday 4th March, Local stage 3.45pm, then Sunday at Newtown Festival 3pm…..Come and see it all live!
