The Eighth Note: Hans Pucket

Eighth Note

‘The Eighth Note’ is 8 quick Questions with Wellington Musicians.

A chance for us to catch up with people & see what they’re up to, or introduce you to a new musician/band and their music.

Today’s guest is Oli from pop band Hans Pucket.

Who are you? Tell us a bit about your music
We are Hans Pucket, a pair of twins from Christchurch and a Jono from Blenheim. We play lovely pop songs with sad lyrics.

What have you been working on lately? Any new tracks or albums on the way?
We’ve been recording our new album at Jono’s house in Melrose. It’s taken us most of the year but the first single comes out this week, and the rest should be out early 2017.

Where is the best place people can follow you & find your music?
Find us on Facebook and Bandcamp.

What were the 3 most influential albums to you growing up?
For me – Oli, the first albums I really connected with were American Idiot, Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No! and First Impressions of Earth.

Which other Wellington musician (s) would you most like to work with?
The Phoenix Foundation.

What’s your favourite Wellington venue to play in?
I am going to miss playing at Bodega – but looking forward to Caroline.

In your songwriting or composing (or the band’s songwriting) how do the compositions and songs take shape?
Usually Oli writes an angsty ballad and then brings it to Callum and Jono, to turn it into a pop banger. More and more we have been writing the coolest parts of our songs all together.

Where/when is your next gig?
Thursday 15 December at Caroline. It’s our single release with Wax Chattels (from Auckland) and Beatcomber.
