Wellington Music: New E.P - B.A.D.S
We interview Pōneke band, B.A.D.S about their new E.P.

When/where was the new EP recorded?
The EP was recorded in May 2024 at the Cook Island Society Hall in Hanson Street, Newtown.
Who produced/engineered the EP? How did the tracks come together in the studio, or at home?
Louis produced the E.P. with Joel Cosgrove recording. We then added additional layers such as saxophone and grand piano independently recorded by our band members. Ben Lemi then mixed the record.
Did the shorter format of an EP give you the option to experiment in any way with your sound or with different forms of song-writing?
We recorded 5 songs and the best three songs, that also worked well together, became the new EP. This was both restrictive and experimental - restrictive with the short length of the release, experimental in the sense that we folded in grand piano, extra drone tracks and saxophone where live pianos do not feature at our gigs.
Was there any specific gear you used to capture that?
You would have to ask the engineer! Joel has about 100 microphones.

EP 001
Is there a particular track or theme that the EP was formed around?
“Guitar worlds” would be one concept. Droning, pop based guitar music that hopefully avoids being linear “rock” music with its associated cliches.
Where do you see the EPs place in growing an audience online? Do you see it as a progression towards an album or a separate entity?
The main single Wrote a Symphony has a vibrant and wild video that has helped people beyond our social circle engage with our music. The video is featured here on YouTube. We are currently mixing the follow up next E.P. then I am keen to perhaps consider creating an 8 song album.
Which digital platforms is it available on?
All platforms with Bandcamp encouraged.
Are you doing any gigs or promotion for its release?
We supporting Sol Fide at San Fran last Saturday, but are now taking a break from live shows (we have played 8x shows this year). Then we are playing an Eyegum at San Fran later in August.
