Library Collection Reserves

We’re preparing to move! Building 7km of shelves and moving over 250,000 library items is a huge under-taking which will take many months.

From Friday 5 September, reserves for collections heading to Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui Central Library will be unavailable until after reopening in 2026.

These items will remain in our catalogue with a special note showing that they are temporarily unavailable until Te Matapihi re-opens.

From major construction to moving collections

With the construction phase of Te Matapihi mostly completed, we are now swinging into a fit-out phase.

The new shelves started to move in from 25 August, starting with the First Floor. About four weeks after that, the fiction and nonfiction books will be the first collections to begin the journey to the new library!

They are being prepared for their new home and will be available to visitors when Te Matapihi reopens.

Find a new fave at your local

Reserves for items at our other branches will continue as normal and there will be new branch books delivered regularly.

Where possible, we will aim to buy additional copies of new popular items or eBooks.
