 Sense and SensibilitySense And Sensibility
Jane Austen
373 pages

Theme: It’s basically a classic, old version of what they call ‘chick lit’, so it’s based around romance and scandal. The story starts when the Dashwood family are left wothout money when Mr. Dashwood, their husband and father, dies and leaves the entire family estate to his son from his first marriage who, influenced by his wife, takes basically all of it for himself. The Dashwood family move to a cottage on another relative’s property … Here, the two eldest sisters, Elinor and Marianne, fall in love, break hearts and generally create scandal.
Recommend?: It’s a great story! You just wont be able to put the book down.
Favourite character: My favourite character, although she didn’t have a main part in the book, was Mrs. Jennings, the mother-in-law of the relative who the Dashwoods rent their cottage from. I love her jolliness and the way she always tries to meddle with the Dashwood’s sisters romances. She’s so funny!
Favourite scene: My favourite scene was when the ‘Mr. Ferrars’ mistake was resolved. Elinor thought Edward had married Lucy but it turned out Lucy had actually married Robert, his annoying brother. Then of course Edward proposes and they live happily ever after!
