Kids’ Club Review by Naomi: Mistborn

Mistborn, by Brandon Sanderson

Mistborn is a book set in the reign of the Lord Ruler, a self proclaimed god who is 1000 years old. Vin, a skaa thief, meets Kelsier, the survivor of the deadly Pits of Hathsin. Kelsier tells Vin that she is a mistborn, an allomancer that can swallow and ‘burn’ metals. Mistings and mistborn can ‘burn’ metals to get powers. While mistings can only ‘burn’ one metal, mistborn can ‘burn’ any allomantic metal. Kelsier, also a mistborn, wants to overthrow the oppressive Lord Ruler, by gathering a skaa peasant army and finding the Lord Ruler’s supply of an expensive metal, atium to buy the Lord Ruler’s army, and even kill him if possible. In the Lord Rulers domain, plants are brown, ash falls from the sky and skaa live like the peasants that they were bred to be.

I recommend Mistborn to 12+ years old. I rate this book 4.5 stars because I like supernatural things and I think having limits instead of a weakness like Kryptonite to Superman is a good idea, but it has a some violence in it.

5 stars
