COVID-19 Update – Libraries at Level 2

COVID-19 logo“Under Alert level 2 all libraries will remain open for normal hours, with a few changes to keep everyone safe and able to use our spaces,” says Laurinda Thomas, Libraries and Community Spaces Manager. “This includes encouraging everyone to follow the social distancing, use hand sanitiser and wear masks.”

“To help ensure everyone can use our services and find their latest reads, we are asking people to again limit their visit to 30 minutes and come on your own or in small groups, where possible. We have temporarily suspended our events and programmes, such as Baby Rock and Rhyme as well.”

“We have suspended our events on the Central Library consultation for this week and you can find more details at for more details. Thank you to everyone who has provided a submission so far.”

“Everyone was amazing in following the hygiene measures and being kind to one another under the previous Covid-19 restrictions, so we hope everyone will be back to our new normal soon.”

When visiting any of our libraries:

  • Please check in when you arrive – please stay at least 2m apart from other visitors and staff
  • Limit your visit to 30 mins as we are reducing the number of visitors
  • Please follow guidance from our staff and signage

All programmes and events are cancelled for this week, please check back on Monday for an update.

  1. I was wondering why we had to sign in to a person on a laptop rather than using the govt app, please?

    1. Kia ora Ani,

All our branches have the NZ Govt app QR code poster displayed at or near the entrance and we encourage customers to use this. We also have an alternate contact tracing method via a spreadsheet which is available for customers to participate in contact tracing if they don’t have a phone with them. If you’d like to discuss your visit to one of our branches then please contact us at We’re keen to hear how we could improve.

      Kind regards,
