New Single: Ivy Angel

‘New Single’ is where a band or artist answers a couple of quick questions about their latest Single release. Up next is Ivy Angel, whose has just released new single Afterparty.

What the song is about lyrically?
This song discusses recognising your problems and getting away from them for a while. It talks about my struggles with not being able to deal with my depression properly and needing an escape because the routine of depression gets so overwhelming. The lyrics are the same for each verse but in different orders, and it’s talking about my life from two different perspectives. The first verse is from my current perspective of being unknown and not very successful in my music yet, and the second verse is from the perspective of having everything I thought I wanted and still being depressed. It ties into the music video in that the main character thought she wanted to be friends with the ‘VIPs’ but in reality they weren’t worth her time, and being in a place you enjoy with people who are nice to be around is all that matters.

Who produced/recorded it? Did it come together in a studio or at home?
Jei Bliss was the producer for the track on this song. We linked up on Soundcloud and what you hear on the track is exactly what he sent me! I then did the vocals and lyrics, and recorded it at home with the AudioBox Kit that I rented from the Wellington City Library, and did the mixing and mastering for the track myself.

Were there any gear or effects in the mixed that you used to get the sound you were after?
Not particularly – I had the blessing of an already perfect track, and I tend to go pretty simple on my vocal effects anyway to let my voice be the focus.

Is this a stand-alone track or part of an upcoming album or EP?
It’s the second single from my upcoming debut EP!
