The Eighth Note: Josie Moon

‘The Eighth Note’ is 8 quick Questions with Wellington Musicians.

A chance for us to catch up with people & see what they’re up to, or introduce you to a new musician/band and their music.

Today’s guest is self produced pop singer Josie Moon who has just released an impressive new single & video called ‘Satellite’.

Who are you? Tell us a bit about your music:
My name is Josie Moon. I’m a 19 year old self-produced singer. The kind of music I’m pursuing at the moment is pop music!

What have you been working on lately? Any new tracks or albums on the way?
I’ve just released a new single I co-wrote, called Satellite. I also self-directed and edited the music video for it. On top of that I’m currently working on my third EP which I am hoping to release in the next couple of months.

Where is the best place people can follow you & find your music?
Depending on what social media site you are on, I’m on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram (@mjoonsz), Youtube, Soundcloud, and iTunes.

What were the 3 most influential albums to you growing up?
I feel like I’m still growing up but these albums were very important to me when they were released, and still are so relevant as inspirations in my writing:
Pure Heroine – Lorde
The 1975 – The 1975
Bon Iver – Bon Iver
(Honorary mention to the entire HYYH trilogy by BTS lol.)

Which other Wellington musician (s) would you most like to work with?
There’s a really interesting new Wellington based band called Physical who would be cool to work with!

What’s your favourite Wellington venue to play in?
I haven’t played at many (lol). The Moon Bar in Newtown, it fits very well with me. (:

In your songwriting or composing (or the bands songwriting) how do the compositions and songs take shape?
It’s always different. I’m always, always writing lyrics which can inspire concepts for me to write full songs about. But the most comfortable way for me to start with is the instrumental, and then I will build the track based on the colours and feelings the sounds give me.

Where/when is your next gig?
I’m busking tonight at the Cuba Street Night Market at 5:30pm – 6:30pm. 🙂
