The Eighth Note: Nuro GL

‘The Eighth Note’ is 8 quick Questions with Wellington Musicians.

A chance for us to catch up with people & see what they’re up to, or introduce you to a new musician/band and their music.

Today’s guest is Trance/House artist Nuro GL, who runs the local label Beast Mode Recordings.

Who are you? Tell us a bit about your music:
Hi there, I’m Alexei Reynolds (aka NuroGL) – I’m 28, born in Wellington, NZ! Lovely place glad to be here still! I have been writing/producing music for around 15 years or more (forgotten) mainly trance, hard trance & hard house which are my passion personally, and many others around the globe. Just over the last year or so I have started my own business that is my record label Beast Mode Recordings, and the sub label Trance Mode Recordings which houses some of the best and most talented producers from around the globe, we’re doing pretty well for a young label.

What have you been working on lately? Any new tracks or albums on the way?
I work on tons of different tunes everyday, its my job, mainly ghost engineer people’s tunes or remix stems or parts of their track. No Album on the way as yet as I make far too many tracks to even consider anything, stay tuned?

Where is the best place people can follow you & find your music?
On Facebook & Soundcloud.

What were the 3 most influential albums to you growing up?
* Trance Nation 2 mixed by Ferry Corsten (Ministry of Sound)
* Sash – Trilenium
* Linkin Park – Hybrid Theory
(also a big metal fan, influences in my latest track Eternal Abyss)

Which other Wellington musician (s) would you most like to work with?
I know plenty of other producers here in Wellington too bad they are only house or bass music producers, they have no interest in collaborating with a hard dance producer, its a true story, I’ve tried.

What’s your favourite Wellington venue to play in?
Bodega (now gone) 🙁

In your songwriting or composing (or the band’s songwriting) how do the compositions and songs take shape?
Often at random, I hear a melody or riff in my head and I put it down to paper, in this case, the Digital Audio Workstation, FL Studio. Lately its melodies then I write the percussion around it.

Where/when is your next gig?
19th May @ The Grand, its called Harderground 2 and it has a collection of the finest DJs from Australiasia and here. Check it out on Facebook!
