The Phantom of the Opera
DVD
Theme :A malevolent phantom lurks below a prestigious opera house hiding from the perils of the world - what is behind the mask? (and it's a musical!)
Score : 4 stars
Recommend : I love musicals so this is pretty much immediately in my good books. It's a pretty amazing production as well, the cast is great and the music absolutely wonderful. It's also very aesthetically pleasing, a pleasure to watch.
Character : Carlotta, which is funny because she's an absolute cow (and not really a major character). She is so arrogant and such a drama queen. Also, you can tell that she's an amazing singer but when she sings it's so piercing you want to cover your ears - hilarious!
Scene : Right near the end, when Christine, Raoul and the Phantom are singing together beneath the opera house (can't say why coz it would ruin the plot). The music here is amazing! All the themes from the previous songs interweave and it gets really emotional - it's so beautiful, you have to hear it!

School of Rock
DVD
Theme : Learning valuable life lessons in the name of Rock music!!!
Score : 5 stars
Recommend : I love this movie - I think i must have seen it 4 times at least! Definitely a great watch - its funny, relatable, the acting by Jack Black is hilarious and it has some awesome music too! Definitely recommended!
Character : I think my favourite character would have to be Dewey Finn played by Jack Black. Dewey's character was funny, outrageous and he had the kids' best interests at heart, despite ultimately wanting to form a rock band.
Scene : Definitely the ending performances by the School of Rock at the rock competition was amazing! The pupils of Horrace Green were awesome!

Azumanga Daioh 4
Kiyohiko Azuma
Theme : The entire Azumanga Daioh series focuses on a group of classmates at a Japanese Highschool as they make their way from one absurdity to the next. I supose you could say the subject is the fleeting moments of hilarity in life-the ones you might forget about but will always be funny.
Score : 5 stars
Recommend : I would definitely recommend this book. The sense of humour is a little strange and sometimes specific to Japanese culture (but there is an appendix at the back!) but the characters (especially Miss Yukari their whack-job homeroom teacher) are HILARIOUS!
Favourite Character : Osaka would have to be my favourite character. Everyone knows someone like Osaka, spacey slow and downright strange but really funny to be around. It takes them like five minutes to get anything
Favourite Scene : AMD is made up of lots of little short 'comic strip' type things, many only 4 boxes long. It would be impossible to choose a favourite as they are all my favourite! *Hugs book close to chest* "MINE"

The Importance of Being Earnest
Oscar Wilde
Theme : Fin-de-siecle, upperclass shenanigans.
Score : 4 stars
Recommend : While having to read this for school did take away from my enjoyment, I found this book surprisingly witty.
Character : My favourite character was Algernon, I loved his wordplays and the random phrases he coined (i.e. "bunburying").
Scene : The scene i most enjoyed was when Jack turned up at his house in deep mourning, only to have Algy appear in the guise of his 'dead' brother.

Get Me Out of Here
Ann Bryant
Theme : This is the 5th book in the Step-Chain series, a series about different teenagers dealing with their step-families. Ed lives in a house with 4 step-sisters and a baby half-brother. The house is chaotic, and the girls are mad, especially Phoebe, the 9 year old who enjoys following Ed around.
Score : 2 stars
Recommend : This book was alright. I would recommend it as a light read if you were bored but it's nothing fantastic. I thought it captured the craziness very well, which is sometimes not such a good thing! It was also a bit annoying how the back cover gave away the whole story. Overall it was okay and some bits were quite funny, so I would recommend it if you have no other books to read.
Character : Phoebe. She was very funny and quite cunning. She was a little weird but she was a funny character.
Scene : When Phoebe was found and she and Ed made up. They could have made her missing for longer to add a bit more suspense but it was cool when she was found anyway.

Saving Franchesca
Melina Marchetta
Theme : Franchescas's full-on exciting mother wakes up one morning and can't get out of bed. This one morning turns into another and weeks pass as her mother slips into a silent depression. Franchesca's life changes dramatically, and as much as she thought she hated her mother, she slowly starts to miss her.

The book is about Franchesa having to work out how she is, and what she wants to do with her life.
Score : 5 stars
Recommend : I would recommend it because it's one of those books that stays with you for life and leaves a message with you.
Character : My favourite character was Franchesca because you felt you were her as you read the book.
Scene : My favourite scene was when she went to camp and she finally started to relax.

The Beatles 1967-1970
The Beatles
Theme : British Rock
Score : 4 stars
Recommend : This contains several classics songs of the beatles; such as Penny Lane and All You Need is Love, but also has some less well known ones. For those people who are fans of the Beatles and 60's-70's music, this is a must. To those less inclined to this sort of music, it is still worth a listen because really there is nothing like a good Beatles song.
