Looking For Alibrandi
DVD
Theme :The theme of this is about self-realisation because Josephine hates her family and culture but then starts to like it and love because she finds a boy that she falls in love with.
Score : 4 stars
Recommend : I would recommend this because it is funny and shows that we may hate some people in our family, or our culture and traditions our family does, but in the end it's not all so bad.
Character : My favourite character was Josephine because I thought that she was real down-to-earth and even though she was going through a rough time in her life she held herself together. She was also a teenager so I sometimes felt I could relate to her.
Scene : My favourite scene was at the end when Josephine becomes to realise that she loved her boyfriend, Nana and her family's culture and she began to enjoy life and was happy. I liked this because it showed Josephine being a better person and made a good ending to the story. I also liked it because the movie ended the same way it started but at the end she was a lot happier and was having a good time which made me happy.

Holes
DVD
Theme : Juvenile delinquents at a camp in the middle of nowhere and the friendships made which can't be broken...
Score : 5 stars
Recommend : I love this movie! It's funny, smart and a really good watch! Not too cheesy and the acting is awesome! Totally relatable!
Character : I really liked Zero - he was determined to learn how to read and managed to survive in the desert for so many days alone... A really strong character, proving size doesn't matter!
Scene : I really liked the part when they had to climb to the top of the mountain to fulfil the oath Stanley Yelnat's great-great- something-or-rather had taken. It was super cool, and to eat onions upon arrival - classic!

Chill Wind
Janet McDonald
Theme : Responsibility.
Score : 3 stars
Recommend : It was good because she finally realised sitting there wouldn't help her and that she wouldn't be able to get her benefit back. I didn't really like it how she got the job kind of handed to her. It would have been better if she had actually tried hard and put her children before just being lazy. I didn't like Aisha's attitude that everyone else should just pay for her and she shouldn't have got kicked off the benefit because she needs it. The real reason was just that she was too lazy to go out and do something she didn't particularily like.
Favourite Character : I liked Raven because unlike Aisha and all the people from where she lived. When Raven got pregnant she had kept on with school so she could raise her kid and have a job so she could support them instead of living off everyone else.
Favourite Scene : I liked the part where Aisha finally got off the couch and went to the job at the station because I thought she had finally realised that she needed to work, but then she got the modelling job handed to her as an easy way out which ruined it.

The Lovely Bones
Alice Sebold
Theme : About a girl called Suzie who was raped and murdered by a man who lived in their neighbourhood. The story is written about how she watches down from heaven on her family and watches her sister grow up the way she should have, still wishing that she was back down on earth with her family.
Score : 5 stars
Recommend : I would recomend it to anyone who enjoys a good read because it takes you through many different situations that you've never really thought deeply about before.
Character : My favorite character is Susie because she tells most of the story so you see it from her point of view but she doesn't stick to the main thought - she has many different opinions.
Scene : My favorite part of the book was when Susie entered Heaven because I liked the way she described the book, it sounded so convincing. It gave me an idea about what Heaven would be like and that it's not just angels with golden halos etc., like a lot of the time it's talked about.

Out
Natsuo Kirino
Theme : The complexities and horrors that can emerge from the recesses of the human mind if pushed to an extreme.
Score : 4 stars
Recommend : I would recommend 'Out' to those with a strong constitution as Natsuo does not shy away from gruesome details in this disturbing account of what people will do to cover up a crime and as a way of escaping their dreary existence.
Character : I would have to say Kuniko, although I should make it clear that Kuniko is not likeable. She is vain, greedy and whines on a frequent basis. As a character however Kuniko brings a much needed realistic element to the story as you feel that you too know someone similar to her. Obsessed with brands and designer perfumes and with her debt mounting you cannot help but look upon her with a mixture of contempt and at the same time understanding.
Scene : This is a scene not for children or the faint of heart. Referred to by me as 'The Bathroom Scene' Masako and Yoshie slowly dismember Yayoi's former husband with a saw and other various kitchen implements. The result-43 plastic bags to be disposed of with the utmost care and discretion.

Asking For Trouble
Mary K. Pershall
Theme : Melanie, the main character, lives with her mum and brother. Her mum has Multiple Sclerosis, so she can't do much anymore, this means that Melanie ends up having to do everything. She meets a boy at school and falls in love, but this boy, Luke, isn't exactly a good boy. She gets into trouble with him but tries to change him, even though her mum and all of her teachers think she should just leave him.
Score : 5 stars
Recommend : I would recommend it, because it is a well written, is exciting, and really makes you feel like you are there with them.
Character : Shirl, Luke's foster mum is my favorite character, because she stays positive through out the book, and despite what other people say, she judges people herself, instead of going by what other people have said.
Scene : My favorite scene is when Luke goes all soft with baby Gracie (pg.82), because it shows that he's not always the tough guy.

24 Girls in 7 Days
Alex Bradley
Theme : Jack's friends are determind for Jack to have a date to the prom. How far will they go to get Jack a date to the Prom?
Score : 2 stars
Recommend : I would recommend this book to anyone who is thinking of trying speed dating. Read this and you will find out why you probably shouldn't speed date.
Character : My Favourite character would have to be one of his best freinds Natalie. Because she is there for him all along, and puts up with his moaning, complaining and helps him practice his technique.
Scene : My favourite scene would have to be when Jack goes to the prom with a girl who has been faithful to him from the very start. It all fits together, so well.
