Girls in Pants: The Third Summer of the Sisterhood
Ann Brashares
Theme : Carmen, Lena, Bridget and Tibby are back with their magical pants for the third time. This summer Bridget is the only one going away and the other girls take up different hobbies not wanting the summer to end, as the four girls are heading off to college in the fall and they are all different collages. They are all scared about saying goodbye and heading off to start their real lives.
Score : 5 stars
Recommend : A fantastic book. I read this in two days! It was brilliant and I couldn't put it down. Ann Brashares has such a good writing style that hooks you in. You can tell what the characters are feeling. This book was not so much about the pants than the other two, but about the friendship between the girls. It was also good to see how much they had developed and changed throughout the series. I would recommend it to all girls out there!
Character : I liked Lena's personality the most, because it is most like my own but Bridget came a very close second. Lena was often sad in this book which wasn't so good, but I felt very close to her. Bridget was outgoing and funny, but Lena had that special touch that made her more believable.
Scene : The ending scene, on the beach. It summed up the whole book. Friendship and love. It was really beautiful.

The Virgin Suicides
Jeffery Eugendies
Theme : The subject of this book is about the suicides of five upper-middle class sisters in America and the 1970s and a group of boys' obsessions with them. The theme is loss of innocence.
Score : 5 stars
Recommend : This book is emotive and interesting, it requires thinking and assumptions as Eugendies does not reveal all. The narration is interesting as it is told from the point of view from a group of boys who are obssessed with them - this means that the reader does not know how reliable the information is.
Character : Trip Fonatine, though not the nicest character in the end was interesting and unusual, his actions were difficult to understand which only added to the appeal.
Scene : The suicide scenes were interesting as the description was very intense.

Skeleton Key
Anthony Horowitz
Theme : This is the third book in the Alex Rider series and the theme is a teenager spy novel.
Score : 4 stars
Recommend : I would recommend this to everyone who has read the first two books otherwise they won't understand whats going on.
Character : My favourite character is Conrad the man who was blown up by a bomb and stitched back together again.
Scene : My favourite scene is where Alex is put on a sugar grinding machine and Conrad tries to grind him.

Beauty Shop
DVD
Theme : Overcoming odds and standing up for what you believe in.
Score : 4 stars
Recommend : I really liked Beauty Shop - Queen Latifah did a great job as Gina. It's a funny movie with a good story line, and its all the more better when the underdog kicks ass!
Character : I really liked Gina because she was funny, street smart and stood up to Jorge, the dictator hairdresser she originally worked for. She also had many hilarious lines, and wasnt afraid to talk about her size!
Scene : My favourite scene was when she had just done up the bankloan-approval lady's hair and then she got the nod for the load. She was dancing, saying "go Gina, i got a hundred-fifty thousand!" The lady was apologetic and said, "not quite that much". Gina's reaponsse was "i'll take a hundred thousand". Turns out she only got something like $30000 - nothing compared to what she expected. It was a crack-up!

Absolutely, Positively Not ...
David Larochelle
Theme : Hiding being gay, friendship
Score : 3 stars
Recommend : I wouldn't recommend this book because it is quite predictable.
Character : I liked Steven because not everything worked out for him but when he really needed it to it did. I also liked how he always seemed to embarrass himself - like when he went to the gay and lesbian youth group and thought the guy was gay and started talking to him but he wasn't.
Scene : I liked the part where Steven caught the fish and thought he had won a car but actually he had won a tent. It was funny how he only got a tent and how he wasn't even into fishing and he won.
