The Alchemists of Barbal
David Clement-Davies
Theme :Hope and Mystery.
Score : 3 stars
Recommend : I would recomment this book because it is a very epic fictional story with unexpected twists. It's not the greatest but it's certainly not a bad read.
Character : The Lord Alchemist, because he has an aura of power around him, people (in the novel) awe at him linking natural events to signs of his doing.
Scene : The epilogue because it reveals the secret text of the alchemists work.

Coach Carter
DVD
Theme : A high school basketball team's rags-to-riches tale.
Score : 5 stars
Recommend : This was one of the coolest movies I have seen in a long time! Not only were there good actors, but the story line was great - I even watched it 3 times! The story of Richmond High's Bball team going from losers to nearly champions under the guidance of Ken Carter was awesome!
Character : My favourite character was Ken Carter himself - played fantastically by Samuel L. Jackson. Coach Carter didn't take any crap from players and worked them hard to achieve the 'impossible'. The team also were made to achieve academically as well as athletically - an achievement for the lowest ranking school.
Scene : My favourite scene was when the boys were all waiting in Coach Carter's office to find out if they had made the play offs. It was tense, and they were all super nervous - then the phone rang. Coach Carter went all serious and didnt let any emotion show after he hung up, only to say "we made it". They all let loose after that!

Jack Johnson and Friends (CD)

Only in your dreams : a Gossip Girl novel
Cecily Von Ziegesar
Theme : Staying true to your beliefs.
Score : 5 stars
Recommend : It's like watching the O.C. or Gilmore Girls - this series is addictive and I can't wait for the next hit, I finished this book in 2 hours.
Character : Blair Waldorf - she's hilarious. She thinks she has so many problems, but she can buy what ever she wants and always has gorgeous guys after her, she's going to Yale - I mean why is she fussing over silly little things, and yet when I think about it I think everyone has a little bit of Blair in them ...
Scene : The scene where they are filming for Breakfast at Fred's and Serena sings Moon River, I love Audrey Hepburn and Breakfast at Tiffany's as much as Blair and this was a well written scene...

Ender's Game
Orson Scott Card
Theme : Following the life of a genius child uprooted and sent off to military training school, so he can fight menacing aliens at a later date.
Score : 5 stars
Recommend : This book was fantastic, and once I got past the slight implausability of a six year old doing all these things, I found I couldn't put the cursed book down and had a few late nights until I finished it. Highly recommended, but heed my warning, you'll find it very hard to put this book down.
Character : My favourite character would be Graff, the officer put in charge of manipulating the children and bending them to the military's needs. I like him because he shows compassion and is having second thoughts doing his job. He tells the protagonist Ender that he is not a friend, but in the excerpts from the beginning of each chapter you piece together that he is actually feeling for Ender and is a friend of a sort.
Scene : My favourite scene would be the near the end of the book, it is a huge twist, so I cant really write about it as I a may spoil it for others, but Ender certainly kicks major ass. You should defianately check this book out.

Follow The Blue
Brigid Lowry
Theme : 'Follow the Blue' is a slice-of-life self-discovery story narrated by Bec, a fifteen-year-old girl living in Perth. The themes include the pains and trials of growing up and exploring who you are.
Score : 5 stars
Recommend : I would recommend this book as it is beautifully written with a sense of humour and light, colourful hand - but take my five star rating with just a little bit of salt as although this reflects how I feel about the story it may not be so for everybody. The style of writing and description simply 'clicks' with me.
Character : Obviously I like Bec the protagonist but another character that I admire is her new friend Jaz who is Malaysian with hair dyed bright red and an unassuming easy attitude. Her friendship with Bec comes across as honest and existing for their enjoyment of each others company rather than out of necessity.
Scene : How about I just quote the book and you can decide for yourself why I like it. The image is great ^_^
'I'm Nick,' he said. 'Who are you?'
Now ondewr he was smiling. There was a total stranger, dressed in white cotton undies and a saggy grey t-shirt, with cling-wrapped mud all over her head, in his kitchen, doing something weird in a wok, yelling commands at the top of her voice. I looked a complete wally.

The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants
Ann Brashes
Theme : The theme of the book is friendship, but it contains many subthemes inside that.
Score : 5 stars
Recommend : I would highly recommend it. The author creates a felling that you are the character, this is very well done because the book switches from character to character so you feel deeply intouch with all the main characters.
Character : I can't pick one favourite character as from reading the book I felt deeply in touch with the four main characters.
Scene : My favourite scene was at the start when the four girls snuck into to the dance studio where they, declared the rules of the pants.
