So who is John Titor? (And why do I keep beginning my sentences with the word 'so'?) Well apparently John is a time-traveller from the year 2036 who began posting online in November 2000 (though it's been revealed that he sent a couple of faxes to Art Bell in 1998).

Of course your first reaction is most likely "what a load of hooey" (well, you probably wouldn't use the word 'hooey'). While I personally believe that this was a hoax, for a little while it did seem believable and is still fascinating nonetheless.

John's first post, dated November 2nd 2000, reads:
"I was just about to give up hope on anyone knowing who Tipler or Kerr was [sic] on this worldline. The basics for time travel start at CERN in about a year and end in 2034 with the first "time machine" built by GE. Too bad we can't post pictures or I'd show it to you."

* 'Tipler' refers to Frank Tipler, a professor of Mathematics at Tulane University in New Orleans and author of two books: The Anthropic Cosmological Principle and The Physics of Immortality.

* 'Kerr' refers to Roy P. Kerr, a New Zealand mathematician who, in 1963, solved Einstein's field equations of general relativity to describe rotating black holes.

* CERN (which stands for Conseil European pour la Recherch Nucleaire) is the world's largest particle physics centre.

* And GE (which stands for General Electric) can tell you for themselves:
"GE is a diversified technology, media and financial services company dedicated to creating products that make life better. From aircraft engines and power generation to financial services, medical imaging, television programming and plastics, GE operates in more than 100 countries and employs more than 300,000 people worldwide."

So as you can see he definitely did his homework. This is how John describes time-travel capability:

"Time travel is achieved by altering gravity. This concept is already proven by atomic clock experiments. The closer an observer is to a gravity source (high mass), the slower time passes for them. Travelling at high speeds mimics this effect which = the twin paradox of faster than light travel. However, this type of gravity manipulation is not sufficient to alter your worldline...

"The mass and gravitational field of a micro-singularity can then be manipulated by "injecting" electrons onto its surface. By rotating two electric micro-singularities at high speed, it is possible to create and modify a local gravity sinusoid that replicates the affects of a Kerr black hole."

Things John said that made me think this could be real:

"Real disruptions in world events begin with the destabilization of the West as a result of degrading US foreign policy and consistency. This becomes apparent around 2004 as civil unrest develops near the next presidential election. The Jewish population in Israel is not prepared for a true offensive war. They are prepared for the ultimate defence. Wavering western support for Israel is what gives Israel's neighbours the confidence to attack. The last resort for a defensive Israel and its offensive Arab neighbours is to use weapons of mass destruction. In the grand scheme of things, the war in the Middle East is a part of what's to come, not the cause." [This was posted in November 2000]

"I believe they [China] are pretty close to putting a man in orbit. It shouldn't surprise you if they do that soon." [Late 2000/Early 2001 - China put a man into orbit in Oct 2003]

"Are you really surprised to find out that Iraq has nukes now or is that just BS to whip everyone up into accepting the next war?" [Late 2000/Early 2001]

Even reading some of these now make me think golly gee... So why do I now believe it to be a hoax? Go online and search for the photos that he posted, in particular the one of "a laser being bent by the time machines gravitational field".

Anyhoo, that's enough for now, yes I've just skimmed the surface but perhaps I've piqued your interest and you'll see for yourself whether or not you choose to believe.
