Featured DVD
new flag The next tango : Astor Piazzolla in conversation and in concert, a film by José Montes-Baquer.
The story of Astor Piazzolla, legendary creator of the 'Tango Nuevo.' The DVD is roughly divided between the concert and the interview, and the latter is peppered with staged music footage that illustrates what Piazzolla happens to be discussing at the moment. At around 45 minutes worth of music the listenener is left wanting more, although what makes this DVD are the interview segments which offer a glimpse into this maestro's thinking.

DVDs

jacketMy life in music, by Julian Bream.
This is more of a biographical approach, as the title indicates, than a straight concert recital. But there is no shortage of superb performances included. including a duet with John Williams, and a glimpse of Django Reinhardt.

Uses personal stories, archival music clips, rare still photos and new interpretations to weave an overview of a great musical innovator who influenced millions throughout his 70+ years. Recommended.

Syndetics dvd jacket Classical guitar : technique & musicianship. , taught by Frederic Hand. (2004)
While commercial movies were quick to transfer to DVD format, the same can't be true of documentaries. So this disc is a welcome addition to our music instruction and study section. 75 minutes is about the right length to get value for money without feeling overwhelmed about all that you don't know. Learn the essentials of posture, relaxation, the correct application of the free stroke and rest stroke, and so on, for the proper approach, techniques and performance of classical guitar.
Amazon dvd jacket Andres Segovia in portrait. (2005)
This contains 2 documentaries made with Segovia towards the end of his life: "Andres Segovia at Los Olivos," (56 minutes) and "Song of the Guitar" (48 minutes). Both are reflective works where Segovia talks about his approach to life, music and playing. The viewer is treated to performances of works by Torroba, Granados, Bach, Tarrega, Albeniz, Scarlatti, Ponce and Rameau.
