The 10-Step Plan to Career Change by Randall S. Hansen, Ph.D. published on the Quintessential Careers web site. Although American, the site is still an excellent resource for all employees in transition, including downsized workers. It is also useful for women re-entering the workforce and for mature workers considering a career change. AARP - American Association of Retired Persons Topics include changing careers and job search, plus a link on this page will take you through to Staying ahead of the curve - an exploration of the perspectives, desires, fears and work-related needs of older workers today and tomorrow. For this AARP study, Roper ASW conducted telephone interviews with a nationally representative sample of 1,500 workers age 45-74, including those looking for work. The site also links to a discussion page on career transition. Australian Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) Job Outlook Even though this is an Australian site, it has useful information on industry employment trends, jobs with good prospects and vacancy trends. Career Quiz Part of the Australian government's career page, this is a career interest reference tool only, not a psychological test. Results give a very general guide to help with review of courses and information about work activities and workplaces. My Future Australia's career information site has good tips including changing your job, getting a job, and returning to work after a long absence. Occupational Outlook Handbook The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a nationally recognized source of career information, designed to provide valuable assistance to individuals making decisions about their future work lives. Revised every two years, the handbook describes what workers do on the job, working conditions, the training and education needed, earnings, and expected job prospects in a wide range of occupations. Although the Occupational Outlook Handbook targets junior and senior high school students, it also can assist college students and experienced workers, including those seeking to change careers or re-enter the labour force. The Riley Guide Employment Opportunities and Job Resources on the Internet The Riley Guide is produced by Margaret F. Dikel, a private consultant, working with companies, organizations, and agencies, to develop their use of the internet for recruiting and career management, career transition and job search.
