Car & motorcycle manuals QuickSearch

To search for a car or motorcycle manual

It is often quickest to browse the shelves as the manuals are organised alphabetically by make, and similar models are shelved together. To search the catalogue, use a Keyword or Subject search and type in the car make and model. Jot down the call number e.g. TOY 032 and look for the book on the shelves near the Science and Humanities desk.

Tips:

  • Several cars are marketed under different names in New Zealand than overseas, where manuals are published, e.g. Toyota Corona is known elsewhere as Camry after 1996. Check the Dog and lemon guide or NZ Identicar if you are unsure.
  • English-language manuals are not available for many imported Japanese cars.

Car & motorbike books

Search the catalogue for other materials on cars and motorcycles: type in the make and model in the search screen under Subject or Keyword. This will give you the classification number in the full record page.

Lending Books on cars and motorcycles are shelved at 629.2 and 629.2275 . At Central they are located on the harbour side of the first floor.

Magazines

Search for Car and Motorcycle magazines on the catalogue: use a Title search. ie. Classic bikes, New Zealand Autocar, or browse a list of our magazines.

At the Central branch you can use the Science and Humanities Magazine Index at the end of the magazine shelves; Look under the heading Motoring for a list of magazines that we hold, or read it online.

At Central, Car and bike magazines are held to the North side of the stairwell on the first floor.

Older copies of some magazines are available at Central, e.g. 20 years of Autocar, Wheels from 1975, Automobile quarterly from 1962.
