EEO Trust Work and Age Survey (2006)
This online survey was conducted in April 2006 by the EEO Trust to gain information on what people wanted from work as they grew older, and to find out what kind of workplace conditions would encourage them to stay in paid employment longer. It is hoped that employers will use this information in future workforce planning.
Older workers: Employers speak out (September 2008)
Research with EEO Employers Group members show that many employers place a high value on older workers, appreciating their reliability, experience, stability and loyalty. The above research has been released alongside a new guide to enable employers to make the most of mature staff. Valuing experience : a practical guide to recruiting and retaining older workers provides tips for employers as well as information on older workers' rights and responsibilities.
SEEK Career Transition Strategies
Part of the SEEK employment site - this is a practical, easy to use site with advice on resumes, choosing and changing careers, and career development.
INTERNATIONAL WEB SITES
The 10-Step Plan to Career Change by Randall S. Hansen, Ph.D. published on the Quintessential Careers web site.
Although American, the site is still an excellent resource for all employees in transition, including downsized workers. It is also useful for women re-entering the workforce and for mature workers considering a career change.
AARP - American Association of Retired Persons
Topics include changing careers and job search, plus a link on this page will take you through to Staying ahead of the curve
- an exploration of the perspectives, desires, fears and work-related needs of older workers today and tomorrow. For this AARP study, Roper ASW conducted telephone interviews with a nationally representative sample of 1,500 workers age 45-74, including those looking for work. The site also links to a discussion page on career transition.
Occupational Outlook Handbook
The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a nationally recognized source of career information, designed to provide valuable assistance to individuals making decisions about their future work lives. Revised every two years, the handbook describes what workers do on the job, working conditions, the training and education needed, earnings, and expected job prospects in a wide range of occupations. Although the Occupational Outlook Handbook targets junior and senior high school students, it also can assist college students and experienced workers, including those seeking to change careers or re-enter the labour force.
The Riley Guide Employment Opportunities and Job Resources on the Internet
