Vampire Diaries on the telly next year

We (well, me) and at least two readers have wondered when The Vampire Diaries is going to be screened on TV in NZ. Finally it has been confirmed! First, by Becs in this here comment, and again in an article in the Otago Daily Times, which says that it will screen on TV One, rather than TV2. I wouldn’t have put money on that! So long as it’s not on at the same time as Glee, is all.

The Vampire Diaries begin in early 2010.

The Vampire Diaries reviewed …

… not the books, but the new television programme (previously mentioned here). Read the review here, (via The New York Times). The reviewer liked what she saw, and compares it to Twilight. In fact, it might even be a little better. There. I said it.

There’s no information that I can find as to when and which channel The Vampire Diaries will screen in NZ. Here’s the official website, anyway! Yaar.

Vampire Diaries on telly

As mentioned in the past, The Vampire Diaries are being made into a television series. The network responsible has released some teaser clips of the show, which is set to begin soon.  You can watch all three after the Read more … – the books can be borrowed from your local library, of course.

Watch the teasers below! Isn’t it cool when he jumps off the roof like that?

More Vampire stuff

The Vampire Diaries are to be made into a television pilot, which is good news for fans of the books and fans of vampires. And fans of television, too. And fans of Ian Somerhalder, also, who has been cast as the vamp Damon.

The original four-volume Vampire Diaries series has been around since the ’90s, and are still popular. A new trilogy has just begun with the first new book, Nightfall. All are available from your local library, probably.

CHERUB: on the telly

Robert Muchamore’s popular CHERUB series looks set to be turned into a television series by the BBC. Good news for fans of the books, which are about a group of kids who are trained to be spies – no one ever suspects kids of espionage! Check out the CHERUB website to learn more about the books.

Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl, the television series, begins tomorrow night on TV2, at 8.30pm. Based on the very successful book series – which we, your public library, has in abundance – Gossip Girl is about a group of uber-wealthy socialite teens who go to an elite school in Upper East New York. The ‘gossip girl’ refers to one such socialite, who runs a blog that exacerbates the group’s internal rivalvries. The first season has screened in the US already, and a second series is due to begin shortly. If you’re a fan of the books and the lives of the rich and fabulous, or at least a fan of Chace Crawford, then you will enjoy watching this.

By your command

If you’re a massive fan of Battlestar Galactica (and you’d be right to be – it’s one of the best things on television) you may be interested to learn that some web-only episodes were made to bridge the story between the second and third series. Previously they were only accessible to viewers in the US, but now they’re available through the C4 website.

We have the DVDs (in the adult collection, so the full charge applies):
Mini-series (start here)
Series 1
Series 2
Series 3

The fourth – and final – series is still yet to be released.
