The first three books in the Tomorrow series by John Marsden feature this month (#5, #6 and #9) so if you’re reading your way through the series at the moment we suggest you reserve the next couple soon (they’re Darkness Be My Friend and Burning For Revenge) since the crowd hasn’t caught up with them just yet. We’ve got the DVD of Tomorrow, When the War Began now as well, so you can relive some skillful dump truck driving (and some rather silly standing in windows instead of hiding under pieces of furniture).

Which items were borrowed the most from the library last year? By harnessing the power of computers, I can tell you what they were! Definite winners were Stephenie Meyer and Robert Muchamore, unsurprisingly (perhaps they should write a book together and it would be the most popular book ever written?); Glee, also unsurprisingly; and Old Dogs, surprisingly.
The most borrowed item overall (out of everything!) was a magazine from the Young Adult collection; Simpsons Comics.
(There’s no point in listing the most borrowed YA non-fiction, as they’re mostly all study guides (Year 13 Bio is #1); 100% Gleek and Sam Stern’s Eat Vegetarian are the top non-study guide non-fiction books popular with borrowers, who are predominately vegetarian Gleeks.)

Here are the most wanted books and CDs for December held in the YA collection. Nothing much has changed from last month I see! At least there are no Twilight books, which clogged up the list for what felt like years.
There are a few new items! The latest Now That’s What etc. is in, with two discs of ‘massive hits’; we’ve got the latest Naruto; and the third and final book in the Wake trilogy, Gone, has arrived. Almost making the list, but not quiet sufficiently popular, are new albums by Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars, and the ordered-but-not-yet-published Awakened, by P. C. Cast.

It’s Shadow Wave by several lengths this month, with daylight to Mockingjay. Tomorrow When the War Began and the fast finishing Torment couldn’t be separated in photos for third. (Tis Melbourne Cup Day.)
The queue for Shadow Wave is moving along: if you reserved it at the end of August you should be getting it very soon. We’ve got lots of copies (22). The Mockingjay queue is up to the beginning of September. I Shall Wear Midnight (also a good name for a racehorse) by Terry Pratchett is the last in the series featuring Tiffany Aching (see also Wintersmith, A Hat Full of Sky and The Wee Free Men in reverse order), and sneaks into the Most Wanted list this month. Actually, they’re all smashing racehorse names.

Let us take you back to 1993: the 20th Century. Czechoslovakia became the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Jurassic Park hit movie screens around the world (and Fresh and Fruity yoghurt pottles), Radiohead released their first major album (Pablo Honey), Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch called it quits (you knew Mark Wahlberg had a funky bunch?), the Lions toured New Zealand, and John Marsden published Tomorrow When the War Began. That is to say, Tomorrow When the War Began is seventeen years old this year! And it’s made it into our Most Wanted list, in a solid second place (see also Dead of the Night at number 6). It must be the excellent movie (and the dude from Home and Away?). So there you go, they’re still a crazy popular read.
