Book CoverWe’ve (well, not me, but you know) just ordered some copies of the soon-to-be-bestseller Robert Pattinson: True Love Never Dies. The cover picture is to your right. Amazon.co.uk has this to say about it:

“Hollywood’s hottest young star, Robert Pattinson, is set for global superstardom and in this book you can read all about him! From his early days as a model and his role as Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter series to his new incredible success as Edward Cullen, the gorgeous vampire in TWILIGHT! Read all about Robert’s interests, his passion for music, and what it’s like to be a heart-throb to millions! Get the inside gossip on TWILIGHT and read what drew Robert to the part of a 108-year-old vampire! Hear about plans for the sequel and what it was like to work with his co-stars. If you’re a fan of Harry Potter or Twilight, this is the book for you. And with a free pull-out bedroom poster, this book has everything!”

So many exclamation marks, it’s got to be good. So, if you’ve been admiring it in Borders but you don’t want to fork out for it reserve it now.

p.s. I can guarantee you the library copies will not include the pull-out bedroom poster (boo), but you may find it available to you on this here blog (yay).

In more Twilight-related news, we have many more copies of Breaking Dawn (bestsellers), New Moon, and Twilight. So many, in fact, that when stacked they make a pile half the height of a person!

We took a photo for posterity (check out the shoes!).

    Make way for ducklings

    09.12.08 | Permalink | 2 Comments

There’s a group (or a brood) of ducklings waddling around with their mother duck in the empty pond out the back of the central library! So cute! There are eleven of them. Unfortunately their chances are pretty slim living where they live, so the SPCA is due to come in later on today to remove them.

NZ Forest & Bird are holding their annual poll to find out which New Zealand bird is the Bird of the Year. Will it be the Fantail, the Kea, or the Kiwi? The Tui, or the Albatross? The adorable Grey Warbler won last year. I particularly like Moreporks (or Ruru), if only because they’re so ridiculously cute, and the Kaka is a great bird too – if you’ve ever been to Nga Manu, you may have had a Kaka sit on your head.

Place your vote here! You have until the 7th of November.

    Little bow … wow

We’re all familiar with cute animals, and especially cute animals saying funny things. But sometimes we tire of cuteness (well, not really), and need to look at really ugly dogs. And vote for the ugliest! It’s not often that an opportunity like this presents itself. (My vote went for Pee Wee Martini.)

    Terror From The Deep II

The giant squid that was caught last year is currently being defrosted at Te Papa. Excitingly, you can watch it defrost in real-time here from cameras in the ‘tank and dissection room’. There is also a blog detailing the event. Eventually the squid will be put on display. Awesome.

    The Terror From the Deep

The population of the world’s deadliest creature – the box jellyfish – is increasing. These are very different to the jellyfish we find washed up on the beach; these things have four brains, 24 eyes, and 8 foot long tentacles of death. And they swim around in massive packs. Packs of death.

If you like the idea of oceanic horrors, you may like the classic stories of H. P. Lovecraft, whose Cthulhu tales have been influencing popular culture for decades (Hellboy, for example, or maybe Cloverfield). They were written in the early part of last century but still frighten.
