Maurice Gee… who won the Young Adult Fiction category of the New Zealand Post Book Awards for Salt, his fantasy novel about Hari and his mission to save his father from the Deep Salt mine, where he has been taken to work as a slave.

The Young Adult Fiction Honour Award went to Anna Mackenzie for The Sea-wreck Stranger.
