November is National Novel Writing Month; or Nanowrimo, for short. You register, and are encouraged to write as much as you can by midnight, November the 30th. There is a Nanowrimo Young Writers Programme, with downloadable workbooks to help you express your inner novelist.
Kiwi Writers is a group that began from Wellington participants of the 2006 Nanowrimo; their website offers resources, links, and support for writers.

Spinebreakers is an online book review site run by Penguin books. Check it out: there’s heaps of reviews and interviews, plus if you’re really keen (and you write quality reviews) you could become a contributing editor…
The previously untitled sixth book in Darren Shan’s creepy Demonata series has a title; Demon Apocalypse. If you’ve been following the series and want to reserve this copy, which should be in circulation soon, click here.
It’s almost Guy Fawkes; a time when the sky is filled with flashes of colour, and the air is tinged with an acrid smell of smoke.
Yes, “remember, remember the fifth of November” because that’s the night Wellington has its annual Pelorus Trust Sky Show. Wotzon has an excellent article detailing the event, giving you the low-down on the best vantage points from which to view this fireworks spectacular.
If you are having your own fireworks, please remember to be safety conscious and considerate of your neighbours and animals. So once the evening gets on a bit, why not put them fireworks away, move yourselves indoors, and pull out a DVD – “V For Vendetta” might be very appropriate.
The Smokefreerockquest finalists have been announced in a media release on the Scoop website, and C4 will begin their coverage of the Smokefreerockquest tomorrow at 5.00pm during Vodafone Select Live.
