Chinese Storytime at Johnsonville Library

Come and join us for a fun and interactive Mandarin Storytime with Chinese stories, songs and rhymes.

Children and care-givers who speak Mandarin, or use Mandarin as a second language will love these sessions.

Our next Chinese Storytime will be held at Johnsonville Library on:

Friday 18 May at 10.30am and will continue on the third Friday of each month.

This is a free event aimed for pre-schoolers through to 10 years but all are welcome

Session will run for 30 minutes.

Family Fort Night

Family Fort story time

Come to Khandallah Library on the last Thursday of each month at 6pm for fun, family-friendly themed activities for kids and their families. On Thursday the 30th of March, we’re having “Family Fort Night” – bring your pillow and your favourite teddy and help turn the children’s area into one giant pillow fort for the evening. They’ll be stories, songs and activities so come in your PJs, if you’re feeling extra adventurous! These are fun events for children of all ages and their caregivers.

Teddy-Bear Sleepover at Johnsonville Library

teddybear-bookYou and your teddy are invited to a very special late night story-time on Friday 3rd June at 6.30pm at Johnsonville Library.

Your teddies will have the opportunity to have a sleep over right here in the library! (Sorry , no children can sleep over – teddies only).

Then on Saturday come back and collect your teddy and discover what adventures he had during his night in the library.

Come in your pyjamas or dress-up like a bear and be ready for lots of stories and fun! Don’t forget to bring your teddy!

We want to get in the festive season with you at our 12 Storytimes of Christmas.

Catch a sleigh ride into your local library between December 7th and 18th for a special festive family storytime. Come in your pyjamas or favourite Christmas costume for songs, stories and fun for the festive season.

Late night storytime at Johnsonville Library

PyjamasIt’s Conservation week – and to help us celebrate our storytime theme this month is about saving our environment and helping to protect our native plants and animals.

Come along for some fun stories and games to Johnsonville Library on Friday 6th November at 6.30pm.

Wear your pyjamas or better still dress up as your favourite animal.

This is a free event for 4 – 10 year olds.

Late night storytime at Tawa Library

TawamusicAt this month’s late night storytime we are helping to save our environment as we celebrate Conservation week.

Come along to hear some fun stories and try your hand at some interesting puzzles at Tawa Library on Thursday 5th November at 6.30pm.

Make it special by coming along dressed in your pyjamas or even better as your favourite animal.

This is a free event for 4 – 10 yr olds.

Celebrate Chinese Language Week

Ni Hao! Experience Chinese culture and language at Wellington City Libraries. There are lots of fun things to do such as Tai Chi, a Chinese film night, Nihao Stories & Rhymes for children, and much more. All for free. Read on to find out more…

 

Nihao Stories and Rhymes:

The popular Nihao Stories & Rhymes sessions in Chinese will take place at Central and three branch libraries during Chinese Language Week.

– Central library: 10:00-10:30am, Every Thursday

– Karori library: 10:30-11:00am, Tuesday 8 September

– Johnsonville library: 10:30-11:00am, Monday 7 September

– Kilbirnie library: 11:00-11:30am, Friday 11 September.

 

Basic Chinese (Mandarin) Lessons:

Come to the library for a 30 minute session to learn Chinese. The session will be based on the bi-lingual books at the Chinese Corner and will focus on basic communication words and phrases include greetings, travel and much more.

– Central library: 1:00-1:30pm, Tuesday 8 September

– Karori library: 3:30-4:00pm, Friday 11 September

 

Chinese Painting Class:

Famous painter Deyu Zheng is visiting our libraries to teach Chinese painting. Come along and enjoy an artistic experience.

– Central library: 11:00-12:00am,  Monday 7 September

 

Chinese Calligraphy Class:

Famous calligrapher and painter Qianxiang Liu is coming to Johnsonville library to teach calligraphy.

Steaming into Storytime at Johnsonville

Make sure you come along to our Friday night storytime at Johnsonville Library where this month’s theme is all about trains.

The storytime train will be pulling out of the station on Friday 6th March at 6.30pm, so don’t be late!

Come along dressed as a train driver as we are going to have a steaming, clickety clack time!
