Kids’ Club Review by Lauren: How Māui fished up the North Island

How Māui fished up the North IslandHow Māui fished up the North Island, retold by Donovan Bixley ; advised and translated by Dr Darryn Joseph

This book was good and a little bit funny in one part. I didn’t like way the older brothers treated Maui; they didn’t show much respect to him. The cartoon pictures were good and I liked the little bit of Te Reo in it. Maui’s little dog was so cute!!

This was another book I found out about at on the school trip. Before I had heard the story before but I loves Donovans book because of the bright illustrations and humorous in it. I love Maui’s cheekiness and how I was able to connect with him. I rate the book a 10/10 and would love to get a couple to read to my family at home!

This book had amazing illustrations and the story was worth reading. Donovan Bixley had written it very nicely giving you the real feel of how Maui felt with his elder brothers braging about how good and the types of fish they caught on their secret fishing spot. But the brothers really were supremely fascinated by what Maui had caught a fish as big as an island. I rate this book to read for anyone who is interested in reading.
