Johnsonville Bookbusters had a hopping time last April. We started off with an Easter crossword activity then we welcomed our two new Bookbusters, Gavin and Seyara. We then had a funny story about a very big headed king entitled King Hugo’s Ego by Chris Van Dusen. 6 Bookbusters shared what they had read and lots of fun was had putting together a bunny puzzle because they were divided into girls versus boys! Damon receieved his 6th month certificate and then we were off to choose from the new books. All in all it was truly a fun session!
It was all about the New Zealand Post Book awards this month at Tawa BookBusters. We had a look at some of the great books up for awards and voted for our favourite one.
This month we also shared the book we had been reading to another BookBuster who recorded our review and shared it with the rest of the group. We have read some awesome books in the last month guys so keep it up.
To finish up we had a game of O & X ’s. We split into two teams and had to answer some question to get the chance to place our O or X up on the game board. It was great fun and we had some very competitive BookBusters but in the end we had to call a draw. We will have to try that game again!

Recently Karori BookBusters have been reading…. lots!
Zoe has been reading The Famous Five books by Enid Blyton.
Amy has been reading Nanny Piggins and the Accidental Blast-Off by R. A. Spratt. Her favorite part was when they are talking about the easiest way to get out of trouble – apparently by lighting a fire! She would give it nearly 5/5 stars
Sophie likes The Twits by Roald Dahl. Especially when they come back home and find everything upside down…
Charlotte likes The Witches which is also by Roald Dahl.
Rosa read Robbie and Foxy Monster Swap by Jonny Zucker back in March and would give it 3/5 stars.
Nuku reads graphic novels and has read Treasure Island.
Next Karori Meeting: Tuesday 1st May at 4pm. See you there!
We had 16 BookBusters at our March meeting. 2 for the first time and 8 new members got their new kits.
We started off with a lovely story and learned how to do our own on-line book reviews. Beacuse we had so many new members we then spent time with a getting to know each other and what we like to do and read activity.
There was also many new books to look at and a new booklist to take home.
Next month’s meeting is on April 4th at 4pm. Come along!
Looking for somthing to read? Here are some great books recommended by our Karori BooBusters. Enjoy!
5 Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce
9 Olivia series by Ian Falconer
Duncan read The Adventures of Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey. He liked the amazing characters in it. His favourite character is, of course, Captain Underpants.
Sean talked about the book Dogs Don’t Tell Jokes by Louis Sachar. It’s about a boy who loves to tell jokes even if nobody laughs much when he does.
At our November meeting we welcomed our new Bookbuster Ashleigh and congratulated Caroline for receiving her 6th month certificate.
We looked into natural disasters. To check the BookBusters preparedness for a disaster we played a game of fill your emergency kit bag.. There were both silly and correct items that they had to choose from to put in their kit. There were also emergency checklists handed out for them to fill in with their parents when they get home.
Then we had the usual book reviews and new books to choose from and a funny story at the end. Look at how much fun we had.
Hannah R told us about “Puddle the Naughtiest Puppy by Hayley Daze. It is about a girl and her cousin who like to go on adventures. In this story the children and the puppy have an adventure at the theatre.
Michelle reviewed Pet Trouble by T. T Sutherland. This story is about a dog called Jeopardy who likes to jump over hurdles.

Mina told us about The Dread Pirate Fleur and the Ruby Heart by Sara Starbuck. In this story a girl’s father gets killed by a band of men. Her uncle who is the most feared man on the seas comes to claim her and Alexander Blood tries to kill the uncle. Mina gave this 100 stars and thinks it’s a great story for both girls and boys
Hannah reviewed The Crown Queen. She said this was a great book for girls. It was about someone who steals the crown because they wanted to crown someone else.
Alec reviewed The Secret Science Alliance. This book is about 3 kids who are very smart and have all become scientist. The write all their inventions in a notebook but someone has stolen this book to pinch their ideas.

Connor told us about Just Crazy. This book has 9 stories and Connor’s favourite one is Mud Men because the men go around naked and put mud on themselves.
Hi All!
We had an action-packed session this month. To begin, Rowan read Ben’s Dream by Chris Van Allsburg. This book tested the geographic knowledge of our BookBusters, and they passed with flying colours! Then we had an assortment of great book reviews. Sofia had read the classic Black Beauty and gave it 10/10. Tess really enjoyed Destiny the Pop Star Fairy by Daisy Meadows. Ben and Lucas had both been reading Geronimo Stilton (as had lots of our other BookBusters!)
Our activity this month was a library scavenger hunt. We got into teams of 2 & 3 and had to find the answers to 10 questions about the library. Some of the questions were really hard! Rowan & Anna were impressed that our BookBusters did so well. We went through the answers together and everyone got to choose a special reward sticker.
See you in December everyone!

The Commonwealth games with a difference came to our BookBuster session this month.
BookBusters had to find a book on a country, a sport, and a means of transport to the games. Along with some questions about the games, and designing their own flag, each team competed for the gold, silver, or bronze medal.
More medals were given out for reviews and spot questions, so we had some multiple medal winners. Well done everyone.
