Leonardo da Vinci wasn’t just a painter: he liked gadgets, and he drew incredible flying, war and nautical machines. You can see these incredible inventions come to life at the Leonardo da Vinci Machines Exhibition, which is on at the New Zealand Gallery of Fine Art. Check out the website – it’s got photos of the exhibition, and they look really cool.

Ticket prices are $12.00 for adults and $8.00 for children, but there are family passes too. It’s worth a look!

Wellington City Libraries’ School Holiday Programme is drawing to a close. So tomorrow is your last chance to get in on the recycling fun! Children from all over the city have been popping into their local libraries to get their hands mucky in worm farms, find out how recycling trucks work, learn what can and cannot be recycled and to make some cool art out of recycled rubbish.

Coming up tomorrow:

11am-1pm Create a wicked sculpture out of recycled rubbish at Johnsonville Library, 11am-midday learn about worm farms and what happens to your recycling with some cool craft activities at Island Bay Library, 2pm-3pm more craft activities and the chance to crawl around inside a recycling truck at Miramar Library.

They’re all fun and free! See you there!

I found this awesome book on Paper Folding in the library today. There are some neat ideas for gifts like a box you can fill with chocolate or a photo frame for your favourite photo. You can also make paper bangers to scare your friends, or how about a water bomb for those hot summer days? Lots of great ideas to keep you entertained.

book coverI love books, I love art and I love scary things. So when I saw the book Art to Make You Scared  by Elizabeth Newbury sitting in the library, I knew I had to pick it up and read it. Although the book has only 8 works of art, it tells you a little about the piece and the artist who created it. I thought the picture on page 11 particularly scary. Check it out yourself.
