This year, we’re making Kids’ Choice much more exclusive; we’re going to select five Kids’ Choice books per month. This is going to be tough, since you keep sending in heaps of Kids’ Choice reviews for some really cool books, but we’re up to the challenge (so keep reviewing)!
The Kids’ Choice selection for this month is a great collection of fantastic books, from the last book in the really popular, amazing Inkheart trilogy, through one of my all time top favourite books (Howl’s Moving Castle) to yet another one of the Warriors books by Erin Hunter. Those cool cats, everyone loves them! Check out book descriptions and listen to the kids’ choice reviews on the Kids’ Choice page.

I just came across this new book called Out of This World which is a collection of 20, yes 20, science fiction stories! Get ready to confront alien invaders and fly off to distant and unexplored lands. It has the classic story “War of the Worlds” (which is one of my favorites) and “How We were Tracked by a Tripod”. There is a varierty of stories so you’ll never have a boring moment reading it. Why don’t you check it out in the children’s fiction area now.

Some pirate crews had a code of conduct. All pirates on board would have to obey it. This is an example of pirate law from Charles Johnson’s 18th century book on pirates.
- Every man has a vote in affairs of the moment; has equal title to the fresh provisions or strong liquors.
- No person to game at cards or dice for money.
- The lights and candles to be put out at eight o’clock at night.
- To keep their piece [musket], pistols, and cutlass clean and fit for service.
- No boy or woman to be allowed amongst them.
- To desert the ship in battle was punished with death or marooning.

Have you read A Really Short History of Nearly Everything, by Bill Bryson? Bill was feeling curious one day about how scientists made discoveries and invented things - so he decided to find out! First he wrote this as a book for adults, and it was so successful he decided to turn it into a big book for kids. It has loads of pictures and facts, and he is really funny too. My favourite parts were the chapters about the stars and the Big Bang. I love space!
I learned heaps of cool stuff, for example, did you know that our Earth is over 4.5 BILLION years old, and that the Moon was formed when an asteroid the size of Mars hit the Earth?! Whoa! How did they ever figure that out? The answers are in this book!
