Learn about lizards
Lizard Day at Karori Sanctuary, 11am-2pm, Saturday 31 Jan.
Can you tell a skink apart from a gecko? Local lizard expert Dennis Keall and Sanctuary conservation staff will be giving visitors a chance to see a range of New Zealand’s native geckos and skinks. As well as some of the more common local lizards you might find in your backyard, you will also get the chance to see some far rarer species, such as the Otago and scree skinks and our largest living gecko – Duvaucel’s gecko. They will also be giving practical advice on what you can do to encourage geckos and skinks into your backyard and what organisations like Karori Sanctuary and DoC are doing to halt the decline of our native reptiles. There will be a BBQ, activities, and fun for all the family! No need to book. Admission charges apply.

Bedtime Stories

Have you been to see Bedtime Stories, the new Adam Sandler movie? It is sooooo very funny, my daughter and I nearly fell off our seats! The basic story is that “uncle is childminding niece and nephew and begins to tell them a bedtime story. The kids chip in with some ideas (raining gumballs) and the next day that is what happens to him”. The ideas get weirder and funnier and when they say he will catch on fire, he gets really worried and goes to some very silly lengths to avoid this happening. Needless to say there is a twist on the fire idea and his life will never be the same. Fun, love and laughter abound! Go see it!

Smelly and Stinky Stuff!

I’ve just flipped open a book called ‘The Big Book of Boy Stuff’ to the farting page. We here at Wellington City Libraries know you lot love to read about disgusting facts… So here’s the goss on farting:

Boys and Girls fart the same amount, but girls hold them in more (to be polite) so theirs are probably bigger!

Most people fart about 14 times a day! This is enough to fill a litre milk bottle! If you fart more than this then you must have super powers.

If your dog or cat has gas then you aren’t feeding it the right food. Its intestines can’t digest it properly which creates gas.

Native Alaskans enjoy a delicious dish called ‘Stinky Tail’. It’s fermented beaver tail, which is made by burying the beaver tail in a pit for weeks or even months! Ewww!

Elephants drop huge farts, but they’re usually not too smelly. Turtle farts smell the worst and Donkey farts are the loudest! But the worst farter has to be the termite; they fart constantly all day long!

Phooey!
