Let’s talk Miyazaki! Hayao Miyazaki is a Japanese filmmaker who makes anime films. Most of his movies are for children and they are often about witches, wizards and magical creatures. His most recent film was Howl’s Moving Castle, based on the book by Diana Wynne Jones.
Now his son Goro Miyazaki has made a film! Tales From Earthsea screened at the Film Festival last month and is based on the stories of Ursula LeGuin, about wizards and dragons. If you like magic, you’ll love the films of the Miyazaki family!
Image if someone gave you a pink banana or a blue orange. What would it taste like? Would we even want to try, and why do sour foods make your tongue feel funny, especially those awful lollies? If you are looking for some science experiments to have fun with at home check out the great science books under Dewey number 507. Grow some crystals, make a volcano, and find out why nappies keep babies bottoms dry. You can also check out some great websites in our Kids Catalogue for more awesome experiments. Have fun!
Hi All,
If you haven’t checked out The Poisoners exhibtion at Te Papa in Wellington, get someone to take you there now! If you have already seen it, go again as they have changed the murderer and a few clues to the mystery. It’s on until the 7th of October and totally free.
You get to be the detective and find out who murdered Professor Felix Splicer while being able to see lots of cool and weird things that the museum owns. I really liked the different skeletons and the stuffed animals with sound effects but got a bit grossed out by the spiders (I can’t stand them!)
Overall it was an awsome murder-mystery challenge that had you guessing all the way. Just make sure you take someone with you to help you. And also, don’t say the answers to loud as it can spoil it for others trying to figure them out too!
If you want to find out more about poisonous facts or trivia, take a look at Painful Poison by Nick Arnold. It’s part of the Horrible Science series and contains all sorts of weird things. Great cartoons and disgusting facts to find out about poisonous things, it made me feel a bit sick in the stomach, but mostly made me laugh out !
See ya next time,
